I am used to working in a live production setting where video switchers are used extensively; it is very common to luma key (replace black) to overlay one video source on another, chroma key (replace color) to do same, zoom and fade (so that when you show something on screen the transition is not jarring) and of course use various wipes, dissolves etc.
The various video plugins to play slideshows etc. are pretty cool, but it's currently not possible to make something look really slick (with the exception of song transitions) since some of these features are missing.
If we could get some of the same transition effects we have from song to song to go to plugins as well, that would be great. And having keying would be... well... key :)
For extra credit, there's a really nifty app I use a lot called Blufftitler, I would love to be able to use its hwnd integration to have it run side by side with VDJ.
My setup right now involves three computers (1 for VDJ, 1 for Ableton, 1 for various video tasks), and a whole slew of video switching, genlock, overlay and converting gear. It would be soooo nice to not have to lug around more of the video stuff. (I already do all my video element playback for live events from VDJ; no more VTRs and DVDPs and boxes of media to bring!), just a little more capability in VDJ would save me another computer and a rack of video gear.

It would have to be addressed on a plugin-by-plugin basis; you'd need to convince each of the relevant authors to implement it. |

I understand what you're saying, and that's certainly one approach.
However, would it not be possible to make VDJ add capabilities to treat the output of the plugins as another video source which it then can manipulate? |
