Hey guys, ive been testing VDJ demo for a while now and really like the program and im going to buy it (or have someone buy me it hah) for xmas

The only thing im looking for now are some decks that will work with VDJ but arnt very expensive (as a poor student type cash is not abundant hah)

Ive took a look at some cdj400's but a pair of those are too expensive, i was wondering could anyone reccomend two tabletop controllers that work with VDJ? I was looking at the Gemini CDJ600 but im not sure if its compatible with VDJ?

and also i was looking at the hercules RMX, can anyone reccomend (and on a sidenote, could you use that in a club?)

Thanks for all the info and hi by the way my names Tom :)

for a table top controller i will recommend the rmx..as it has a built in soundcard and later down the line if you wanna go slow you can add cdj or turntables to it until you build up to a independt mixer..but its all in how your cash flows....

I would have to agree mistah p about the RMX I have one and use it @ all my gigs wether at the club or mobile gig...
Its the best bang for your cash..also and I am speaking from experience if you wanted the cdj400 then get them...trust me you will eventually buy them.. Gems CDJ600 are compatiable as with any CD players wit Time code as long as your a pro user.. and the RMX is setup already for this..

So its all what you can afford...

good luck

i also agree, there is no 2 tabletop units at a cheap price the rmx is an all in one controller native to virtual dj so for a bigginer the rmx is a great controller for the price.

Agree totaly.

It is difficult to find a more competant all in one controller than the RMX.

I don't think you can do better on a budget!!!

I would probably buy hercules steel, then if you play in a club or whatever you need sound quality i would buy

-deejay trim 4&6 (DEEJAY TRIM 4&6 + Scratch Starter Kit <-- probably this one since you can use vinyl timecode.)
-you can plug 2 steel controller on it, = 4 decks ;)
-you can export sound to mixer = nice

steel has no soundcard built in, does it matter now ? you play in your bedroom right...
later you can buy a better soundcard, like above.

I own rmx i believe in it, but if i had a choice back then i would go with 2 steel, and deejay trim.
Back then deejay trim wasn't out yet and they weren't rumors about it... my bad..

Why buy the Steel when the Hercules RMX has the built in soundcard.

Agreed.

I have been using my RMX for over a year now. I've used it at home, at garden parties, mobile and now in clubs.

I'm a DJ veteran of 20 years+ and while there's vast amounts of options out there on the market, you can't get a better all-in-one.

The only thing that lets it down is the Mic support, but I think that's pretty much common across all of these style of controllers.

As has been said before. The beauty of the RMX is:

* Solid build with Aluminum finish
* High Quality Sound Card - The Balanced and unbalanced outputs
* Good quality crossfader
* Seperate deck and master volume controls
* Pitch controls and jog wheels
* Tone control - including kill switches
* Headphone input with volume and mix dials
* Support for external inputs which means Time Code can be experienced for no extra cost

More details here

Cheers,

Roy

Why steel, instead of rmx.
Rmx built in one. rmx soundcard override all soundcard. which makes harder to use other soundcard.

steel has more options than rmx, both are same as 'core' talking.

if you get :
-deejay trim 4&6 scratch kit
-2 steels
-2 vinyl timecodes.

you get 6 decks right there.
you can export sounds (from all 6 decks) to a mixer (pioneer djm 800 or whatever) use an effector on your decks.
now with a mixer you get 3 more channel to play with for effects - sample. whatever.
if you buy :
-rmx
-2 timecodes

you get 4 decks.
thats it.

I understand your on a budget, but you dont need to get all this at once. just get steel, than when you can afford soundcard to add more decks and mixer go for it.

with a rmx you'll need to sell it along the way if you want to go for a more standard setup...

do you think is best.
I just shown you options.
pm me if you want to talk.

peace

but your suggesting the 4&6 and the steel which is actually more money to start,,, the rmx does have the all in one and can be upgraded later down the line such as i have done...i started with rmx used it for year without any adlt equimpent..now looking at getting a interface to link it all together but if wanting something to start with that will do the all in one..RMX is prob the best way to go...cheapest way to start..

In my opinion i would go down the timecode path.

I have tried nearly all the tabletop controllers and they all feel like toys with small jog wheels and flimsy crossfaders.

If you brought 2 cd/vinyl turntables and ran timecode it feels more professional and more like the real thing.

I used to use tabletop controllers all the time and since i have switched to timecode i have never even thought about going back to a tabletop controller. Like i say they feel like TOYS (But this is only my opinion) Different products suite diff peoples needs.

The RMX is setup for TimeCode just plug and play..no other piece of equiptment to buy? how could you not like it to start with with??

I have owned 2 as I sold my 1st one and realiized I made a mistake because I wanted to do Vids. thw way my setup is all I have to do is click a button and I am on full video mode and use just my RMX and not do the 2 crossfader thing...

Sorry that's complete bull. You can override the sound card in the settings. I've had the RMX connected to my desktop and used the PC soundcard. Just needed the RMX to play/Pause an automix..

Really like what?

The guy's just starting out... Don't put the fella off. Maybe he doesn't want 6 decks. That's not a reason to opt for a 4&6 - that's a personal option.

Eaxactly. So any controller, with a built in soundcard is gonna save money. Not just the RMX, but as you can tell from the other responders, the RMX has a good reputation and is very reliable.

I would liike someone with another controller to chip in and add the merits of that too. So as to take the biased view off this thread...

Sp33DJr wrote :

Again, opinion. Define "standard". For me my RMX IS my standard setup. To you, standard means "timecode".

I am a DJ with over 20 years experience. I beat match, but don't scratch. I play clubs and am mobile. I have no intentions of changing my RMX. Why would I? Sound card is good quality, plus with the RMX as mistah_p has stated can be configured to grow with you.

I started out using it as a "desktop" controller. Now it's flight cased, I use it in external mixer mode, with my Q-SD mixer. And yes if I wanted to I could take the two SL1210's that I have (which are in perfect working order and nearly 20 years old!!!), connect them to the RMX is ASIO mode with the TC vinyls I purchased (just in case) and go down that route also.

At the end of the day, they guy needs to make an informed decision. I tried to keep my info to facts about the controller I know and use.

Yes he may want to change his setup down the line, we all do/have, it comes with experience and the way each individual DJ's. I know members here that have several controllers and have timecode.

In fact the most important thing to take from this, is that you will probably end up spending a small fortune on equipment as you learn and develop over time. We all started on a budget. Luckily these days, even the smallest budget will get you well covered.

Cheers,

Roy
