Sujet drive disconnects

During the course of the evening the external drive losses connection,
and is not seen in VDJ8.
This happens during the evening, while music is playing and
searching for another song.
After a while the drive opens up on the desktop. I am
able to close that down and it is now recognized in VDJ8.
Something new happened this time;
When loading a new song on (Either) deck, it would not load.
After about 40-45 seconds it would load. The songs have been
analyzed and previously played, so that should not be the problem.

Windows 8.1
Intel i5-42 CPU 2.40 GHZ
8 GB 64 bit
USB 3.0
External drive is also 3.0 USB

Any ideas what these 2 problems could be related to?

you drive is going to sleep mode causing the delay you need to adjust the sleep settings for it

Usually when the drive goes to sleep it will not open the file browser when it awakes. Auto run may open the browser on drive connection. I would look at the possibility of a bad cable or maybe the drive.
The event viewer is another spot to look and see if there are disconnet errors or other drive issues.

As strange as this sounds , I had a usb cable that had a issue and the same thing happened.. It would see it then loose it .. I lost it and then went got a new drive then asked when I was there. They gave me a new usb cable and the issue stopped. it was a usb but it was only meant for the power the gps. then when i changed it the gps thought it was loading from a computer every time I turned it on.. looks identical but not even close..

The USB cable came boxed with the drive.
Going to try a new cable anyway.

whats the make and model of the drive and how do you know it is not going to sleep?

Hm. It appears more like a power issue than a sleeping issue to me.
By power issue I mean that your HDD needs more power than it receives through the USB.
This can be due to bad cable, overloaded USB port or bad drive design.

I had a Maxtor drive once that I could never get working properly without connecting two usb leads on two different USB ports...

Could be cable or usb port issue. I have a brand new ASUS, and the two left usb 3 ports, have an issue with hard drives. So, only the right ports are used for drives. I can use controllers on left side with no problems. This is a company wide issue, that is plaguing all users. Are your usb ports going to sleep?

Seagate:Model:SRDOSPO.
Been using this drive for over 6 months and it never did this.
The only thing using USB are the controller and the external drive.
As far as I can see nothing is going to sleep.
This is stranger as I have been using the same port, and it never
acted like this. It will disconnect and then reconnect after a couple hours.
If it was the cable or USB port, do you think it would act like this?

What were the results of using a new cable, different port? Have you tried a different drive on the same port?

Have not gotten a new cable yet.
I was thinking of trying a different port, which I will do later today.
Have not tried another drive.
Thanks

OK, just try to do one fix at a time. Process of elimination.
