Sujet time line on video editor for addingf text

I am redoing all my music to have text. is there a way you can make a time line on the wave so i can edit it faster and better along with a way it can not reset every edit i have to make .. please and thanks. also is there a way to not have the cover show as the back ground as if the cover is low res it messes up the text resolution too.
