Hello. Is there any virtual dj version for ubuntu 7.10 operating system or it will be available for ubuntu 7.10 operating system in the future?

There is no Linux release as most desktop linux is not realy intended for heavy audio usage.

You could try installing it via Wine.

i did some installs with wine ......and a stripper from czechoslovakia IM'd me an said knock it off ...?

In wine it launches without crashing but is unusuable because of ultra slow repainting.

I'm running 8.04 on my daily computer, and absolutely will NEVER go back to windows EVER!!!! Why would I ? Ubuntu is free, its stable, and i'm addicted to the 'cube' lolol

Anyways, i'd LOVE to use VDJ in ubuntu, it would be perfect for each other, ubuntu doesn't use any resources really, and it would be friggin awesome to see VDJ in it. Unfortunately, I already have a stable setup, and don't want to change a thing about it, because my video computer is 95% where I want it to be, but I have YET to have a hicup or a freeze, or anything....

COULD YOU PLEASE BUILD A SUPPORT VERSION for Ubuntu 8.10 plzzz i love dis software so much and using it in Wine is VERY VERY SLOW(100% cpu)....i guess life is not easy more time, i hope sumone hears me at least and have heart to come out with a version for Ubuntu Linux. You guys might just find it easy to port to it too, just like you did mac. So again i ask, please consider. Linux audio have advise since you last noted and its more stable now

Mixxx is cross platform you could give it a go.

might come one day... VDJ is for the mac platform already, and changing the code to make it work on Linux systems is not that much of work... except for video mixing maybe..

Its not ruled out that such a version might come one day, but its not planned as of now either ;)

But its an interesting thought

one more vote for Linux Version. Could be released for most common Linux distros such Fedora, Ubuntu and Opensuse. Linux is by far more stable and robust than windows xp or vista. A modification in collaboration with wine should be a first step ( modify some libraries, some things in wine in order to optimizise the function of vdj in wine). Perhaps later developers could release a Linux Version.

Why would a Linux program be restricted to certain distributions, that would be like having a gig and saying no vegetarians. I don't really see it ever happening, commercial projects don't really sell fantastically on Linux, it's the support which people pay for (if they pay) and support here is provided free.

i must admit the thought of Virtual dj on a linux based system is a nice idea. mixxx is still in its infancy but does allow for time code usage. it would deffinatly put it in the forefront of djing software available for the os and have a very unique market share. (i'd love to see a fully functional cut down version for an eeepc)

for over 15 years there's no czechoslovakia :-) it was peacefully divided into czech republic and slovak republic....


and to the topic, linux version could be nice and maybe not so problematic to release, but it's more easy to support mac & windows than several linux distributions in many versions different libraries etc.

In this case maybe an own minimalistic distribution (or use some existing) and in case of a gig just boot that OS. (and we will have something like the Numark IDJ2 or D2 director but running on our PCs)

that sounds like one beast of a DJ system :P I also am a big fan of Ubuntu, would be nice to see somthing like this in the future.

Nomatter what anyone says, except for office applications LINUX has a small userbase. And since you are supposed to run this software on a dedicated system there is little use to justify the huge cost in development and maintenance

linux distris like ubuntu are getting more and more easier to use!
if Virtual DJ miss out on creating a linux version another will do that und will be the winner

the only thing Im missing is the beatmatchin, which is coming up at the end of 2009

Thats what I was thinking too.
Imagine if we could just lose the conflicts and limitations of Windows.
Many of us dedicate our machines to this anyway.

Tired of getting bounced around from platform version to version with Windows, ie: xp, vista, 32, 64, now 7 coming.
Cause every time they do, its a bump in the road for our gear in some cases rendering it useless such as Virtual Vinyl.

But I would vote for a dedicated OS for sure.

I hate to tell you this, but UltraMixer doesn't have anywhere near the features of VirtualDJ. It's missing one huge one for a start - video support :)

I have a dual boot windows/ubuntu linux machine. Windows vista loves to blue screen on me, where as ubuntu is steady as f*ck.
I would never do a gig on windows, as it would most likely crash!

Meanwhile I'm gona give this mixxx a go.

If you get BSOD in Vista you have a serious problem.. IMO you are talking BS here..

VDJ fo Linux is a waste of time and money if you ask me. It's not advanced enough in audio and video support and there is no advantage, none over using Windows..

but we've been over this before here.. more then once..

if vista is giving you blue screens, its showing you what is going wrong with your installation.

none of the vista PCs that i have ever built have ever shown a BSOD.

write down the error numbers and google search about them or post them here, and i'll be able to tell you whats not configured properly with your vista.


in the meantime, give mixx a go and tell us about it
