Sujet: Using two computers and one hard drive!

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I originaly had a PC with 2 external HDDs (1 one audio, 1 video). Then I baught a laptop and to get the laptop video and time code ready I've only working with it for the last 2 weaks. Last night I go the club want to start using the PC I plug everything in as normal and VDJ didn't recognize my HDD. I asking myself what the F*CK??? I recurse my music and the songs come up but no database recognition.

Long story short... My Laptop is a E: drive and my PC is a K: drive so the database was switched in the HDD from K to E.

I would like to work my PC on Friday nights because the booth is too open for dumb ass people spilling or dumping drinks and use my laptop for another club for timecode and video with the pioneer 1000s.

Hum, really ?

VDJ 5.x best feature in my opinion is the hot swap database. You can even hot plug an external disk during a gig, and the database for the connected drive will auto show in VDJ (say a new dj comes and wanna play with his disk)

Likewise, you can easily switch a disk between 2 PC's, and use it within VDJ at both PC's.

Reason being that the database on the EXTERNAL drive does not have a drive letter, and its database is saved in root of drive (where VDJ looks for it)

Does it not work at you'r PC? If so, I can only imagine you dont have 5.x version installed on one of the PC's?
OR maybe not the correct 5.x version... Not sure it was all up and running in 5.01

I agree, but last night when I got to work on my PC VDJ did not recognize the drive in browser, the database, cues or nothing. After I recursed the songs showed up but as if everything was new to setup. I ended up using my laptop until I can figure things out.

I can't explain what happened that why I depend on the great intelligence of the VDJ GODS ( insert forum names here ).

I'm not going to mess with anything today because I have to work tonight and I already set everything up this morning doing a test run. Both systems are running 5.07. Sunday I will install 5.1 CUE on both systems.

Sounds odd... Maybe one of those freak things...

I use your kind of setup every week, havent had a problem yet...

I use several PC's ( Radio DJ, Club PC, laptop), and SAME external drive on all...

Would hate to get into a position like you did... But not sure what happened.
Did you try disconnect the drive, and reconnect ? Might just be a freaking thing first time around....

But try if you can reproduce it

And sorry for not having any Godly answer, I really cant think of why it happened.. :)

Once again I have proven to myself " always have a plan B " never show up without a back up for any all situations that you personally can control. If sound stops make sure it's because of the host and not you.

CONGLINS LAW # 36

hehe.. good law ;) and yeah, there is another law as well, Murphy's Law : "If anything can go wrong, it will"

So being prepared is a good safety measure..

Please try reproduce it, never heard anyone else experience this... So it might be some rare bug, say for example something in the XML prevented an accurate read or something

I'm at my friday location and plugged in my external and everything is showing as normal. I don't have a clue as to what happened though.

Now I'm noticing something else. I'm going through my files and check for double, bitrate and other things and my ( isscanned=0 ) is randomly catching unscanned files. I can click on a file then another then another and search on "unscanned" and it will show files showing. I can do the same thin like i'm doing an actual show then click on "unscanned" and more files will show. I've been doing this for 45 minutes catching files while I work on my Laptop.

What's going on? And most likely this happens during a show hence why I can't find files that I know are there. It doesn't show right away, it takes time to catch them and randomly.

Re-assign a new drive letter to your external something like Drive x in drive utilities....

You'll have to re-name it on the other machine also probably, but from that point forward, it'll always match....
