Sujet: Editing playlists?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I'm demoing the new VDJ 6.0.1 and learning about the playlists, virtual folders, etc. I created a few playlists that are now saved with my system. I created them by manually loading songs to the Playlist window, then "saving" it.

But, how do I edit them? Now that they're created, it seems that i can't do anything with them, besides load them to the rt hand window. I can't drag/drop new files, etc. When i do try to drag/drop, i get the

The virtual folders works fine, as i can create, edit, add/remove files just as expected from the browser window. (I can even drag files from the playlists to the virtual folders)

Not sure if it matters, but my entire music library is on a partitioned "G" drive, while my main system is on C:

What's up?

I assume when you say main system is on "C", that you are talking about VDJ.
If VDJ is on "C" & Music is on "G", it should be fine.
Once you made & saved a play list, you need to load it in order to edit it.
Load the play list in the far right of VDJ. The go back to browser and search for whatever
tune you want to add. Then you can drag the song into the play list colum on the far right.
From there you can save the play list again if you wish.

Thanks bogart. Yes, that's my arrangement - system/program on C and music on G (it's actually just a partitioned space on the same physical drive) - it's working fine (as far as loading up and playing tracks, etc.)

I'm not at my system now, but you're saying that you have to load into the playlist window, edit it around, and then RE-save? As opposed to simply dragging and dropping, and/or deleting (with mouse or keybaord) and/or moving files up/down within the list. (can't i do that with virtual folders?) Old PCDJ FX at least allowed you to do that within Waitlists. (And after a search, you could right click and copy/add song to any existing waitlist after a fly-out menu appeared - albiet a bit goofy how it interfaced, it worked and was better than manually re-saving the Waitlist every time.)

I also have to ensure I type/enter in the name exactly, so it overwrites properly instead of saving as a new list - as opposed to having at least a file window come up to allow you to select an existing play list.

From a UI standpoint, this seems very burdening, and full of areas where mistakes can happen. I'll tweak around with my system when i get back on it, but on paper, this sounds like Playlists aren't worth the effort (and risk of mistake)

What's the difference from a Playlist and a Virtual Folder then and best approach? (I posted a similar question separately: http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/113853/General_Discussion/PCDJ_Transplant_______what_is_best_way_to_organize_music_.html)

Being solely a wedding/corporate event jock, 30-50% of my music is played off of "playlists" . . whether it's cocktail, dinner hours, or bride/groom/wedding specific songs (all that I pre-arrange well before the gig) I need playlists (or some derivative of) to function.

Playlist saving system is very strange in VDJ. You have to type playlist name every time you want to save it.

I see it as being very user friendly and quick to operate.

Are you using v6? Not sure how the steps and destined to fail issues above can be classified as easy, but nonetheless, it can use HUGE improvement to make it easIER.

So still demo'ing . . . you do have to Re-type the playlist name. Poor UI design, but worse, assuming you won't remember the exact name, AND if you have your "FOLDERS" bar autominimized or if your FOLDER's is viewing a different area (outside of the playlist listings) . . . you cannot gain focus back to the player to scrool or view the name of your playlists. Back to guessing . . likely wrong. Once the "save as" dialog is open, you loose focus/control to the main player, giving you no control to go back and see what your playlist name is to save it correctly.

I can't see how playlists are easy and user friendly.

Well, at least we could have "Save" function instead of "Save As.." function. I end up with bunch of similarly named playlists because I have to retype it many times.

Yeah, I have a serious case of "C.R.S." myself, so it would be handy to save your playlists without having to rememember the name, lol.

Maybe this should be in the Wishes and new features forum, but I agree, it would be useful to have the same playlist name presented and selected (highlighted), with the option of saving the same playlist name (as previously loaded) or editing the playlist name and then saving. Doesn't make sense to have to type the same playlist name again...

Thank you so much for the explanation about editing your playlist. It's not too intuitive !!!
Great posting and very useful, gracias !!!
