Sujet: I caved this morning . . . hello VDJ - Page: 1

Cette partie de ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes

After going through the trial for hours and hours and hours over the last 3 weeks . . . i caved and dropped my 300 bones. My trial ran out last night ;) I'm a full time wedding jock, and have been a PCDJ FX user for 5+ yrs so it will take a bit to successfully run a full gig off of it, but looking forward to it.

I was a bit reluctant though. It wasn't until i downloaded and (quickly) tried 2 other demos that i came back to VDJ. My biggest items are some issues with Virtual Folders and Playlists. As a wedding/special event guy, the ability to sort/manage/deal with playlists and tracks is almost as important as the "bells and whistles" of a DJ player. Sorry . . . i don't scratch. (and I'm NOT talking about how I organize my music on my hard drive - that's a mute point) I'm still struggling with the best approach to manage my "lists" - virtual folders, playlists or through iTunes. Each has its pros, but each has some serious CONS. I also find issues with some of the UI design "features" (or some lack thereof) but will learn . . . and they're not as bad as PCDJ. I've been recording my findings and issues and will post them soon.

Though, right off the bat, the search function of my library kicks ass. Fastest and best i've seen. Plus alot of other stuff i like too.

Nonetheless, i'm looking forwad to the new program. One of the reasons for purchasing is the great members and support from these forums.

Welcome and i'm glad your enjoying VDJ.

In the forums you will find tons of help on any issues or questions you might come across.

What type of UI was not working for you? Look in the skins section we have tons to choose from and maybe one will suit you better.

nice one, welcome aboard...

Good luck and glad to see another wedding jock on here.

Welcome mate!

Its always good to see another Pro Wedding DJ here!

welcome to the Pro!! Enjoy!!

If you have any problems then feel free to ask!! =)

I have my music organized in folders by Genre under d:\Music
I then set the d:\Music as a favorite. Then all my music is easy to find.

I then set up "playlists"...."cocktails", "early dinner", "dinner", "late dinner". ect to autoplay those portions. the playlists are easy to edit on the fly to add/remove tracks as I feel on the fly.

PS. Welcome aboard...I was a Red user>then REDVRM> now I am happy :)

Agreed.

Welcome to VDJ and to the forums! There is a wealth of information on these pages. Dive deep, there is no shallow end here. I'll say that IMO, VDJ is a step up from PCDJ. I guess the different people will like different software and I am no different. I just could never get comfortable with the interface I guess. I had been using OTSDJ for years and years and was only using VDJ recently to do clubs and Karaoke until I felt comfortable to gig out a private event such as a wedding. Using it at a wedding came out of necessity - as my laptop failed fantasticly about 12 hours before a wedding. I not only had to buy a new laptop, transfer my music and get used to VISTA - and quickly, I took a chance and installed VDJ v6.0.1 and was up and running about 3 hours before the wedding. NOT A PROBLEM - and that was before I had an opportunity to optimize the laptop for VDJ. I run videos, karaoke and music through VDJ and it works great.

my 2 cents. Again welcome aboard!

As you start to really go thru your music and "tag" it using all the power of VDJ fields and search capabalities,
then Folders and Playlists become less important, and what takes over is the FILTERS!

IE: comments section is searchable, and can store anything you want.. and you pick & choose what info you want returned..
Multiple Genres are possible (this can turn out to be really useful!)

When I used PCDJ I used playlists and 'folders' A LOT.
now? not so much. :-)

Welcome to the ranks of happy VDJ users!! Congrats!! I'm a wedding DJ that uses VDJ exclusively and I own most of the "other" brands of DJ software but VDJ totally blows them out of the water!

Welcome aboard to the Virtual family. You have made a great purchased. You already know this because you have tried it out and compare it to the others software’s out there and notice that virtual has more to offer you. The more time you spend in getting to know the program the more convince you are that this was a great choice. Whatever problems you may come across note that others members are here to help you get through it. They either experience the same problems or have the knowledge in helping you trouble shoot the problem. Once again welcome and enjoy you new toy.

Wow, that's awesome! Ya see . . a great forum full of support! This thread makes me even more confident of my purchase.

A quick preface to my "issues" comments . . . I'm an engineer by background so I'm a bit anal when it comes to User Interface and UI design and Usability. (I'll give you a hint . . . http://www.useit.com/ is one of my favorite websites, and Jakob is one of my idols and I believe that every software developer should attend seminars like this http://www.nngroup.com/events/tutorials/usability_mind.html ) After 20+ yrs of using computers (since the Radio Shack TRS-80) and the fact that I'm on them 8-10-12 hrs a day (I do other computer and design work on the side) I tend to get sensitive of UI issues and inefficiencies and stuff like that. I've got quite a "laundry list" going, which many will think i'm crazy.

I digress . . . more to come ;) Thanks again everyone!

Wow, pcdj users coming over in there droves.

Welcome

Out of a bit of loyalty . . . the new PCDJ Red Mobile was one of the other demo packages I tried. Honestly, I used it for only 20 minutes and left/uninstalled. Hated it! I will say that PCDJ FX got me through 300+ weddings/events over 5 years and i don't have much bad to say but i welcome VDJ with wide open arms ;)

Welcome along i've been using VDJ for over 4yrs now and love it. Recently in one of my venues i have been using Serato. And i can't stand it i love VDJ really do.

Great choice dude and welcome!
