The very weird and VERY frustrating problem:
I'm using traktor 3 DJ software running on a Gateway 2GHz - 1GB ram, and controlling it with Hercules RMX. In almost all my gigs this year, the trio is unstoppable. I mix through the night, no probs.
BUT in three (very embarrassing) instances, my unstoppable trio...STOPS. Here's how it happens. I fire up the software and hardware as usual, and start the event, ceremony or whatever. The system works fine for a few minutes, and then I TOUCH the Hercules RMX and there is a buzz. Than the track stops, and I lose control of the software. I also lose audio (even my mic is out, which is connected directly to the H-RMX). Also, my software seems to freeze for a moment (about 20 - 30 sec), and then I can use my mouse and restart the track, but I still don't get audio.
A quick fix is restarting my PC, but soon, same thing.
One symptom I've become aware of before the problem occurs is:
As I begin, I notice a buzz in audio whenever I touch the H-RMX. This buzzing sound is loudest right before the freeze up.
More variables:
- I don't play in the same venue all the time, and the three "freeze up when I touch the Hercules RMX 's", happened in three different venues.
- I just purchased a new power adaptor for my PC. The original was not grounded. The new one is. But I've had the problem happen with both adaptors.*More below....
- At home, my set-up also buzzes when I touch the H-RMX, but it never freezes. *AND More, when I unplug the adaptor, and go off the battery alone, the "buzz when I touch" goes COMPLETELY AWAY!
I am in the middle with which of my three components is failing! It could be the PC, Traktor or the RMX?
If you know the cause, have the same prob or know where I can get help, please show me to enlightenment!
Thanks for the time, and help. A bit long, I kno, but I hope it serves to inform you of my pain!

!st thing I would try is the USB cable for RMX, try replacing it make sure the replacement lead is up to spec.
Does it 'Freak Out' if you touch the USB connector at the rear?

Hi there, Happy New Year!
Ok, I came across the same problem with my RMX Console. The whole thing happened on New Years Eve. As soon as I touched the RMX, it would light up like a Christmas tree. Playback stopped the very same moment and I had to unplug the console and restart VDJ.
I guess it has to do with bad wiring in the old buiding I was djing in. Maybe there is a way to avoid "power surges" or bad grounding?
I appreciate your input.

Hey there along time ago I came across a thread obout the RMX and static electricity..... Is there a rug where you play? if so you should ground yourself before touching the RMX. I have tested this myself and it is true static electricity makes the RMX go crazy.

I agree: same problem, same causes. Static electricity. You DO need to step on a ground without furb or similars. Search for a wood or stone piece of floor to place your stand. If you can't do that, use a plastic console like Kercules MK2.
Bye...
Bye...

Thanks all...
I did switch out USB cables (three of them), and the problems seem unphased. And I do gig in a lot of venues that have carpet. So I will give discharging my self a try.
Also, I've been on other forums, and I have an answer to the buzzing at least. I grounded the chassis with a short copper wire. Seems to work.
- remove the screw holding the aluminum plate to the console on rear panel close to the USB plug,
- wind a thin metal cable (as a copper cable) around the screw
- fix the screw again,
- wind the other end of the copper cable around the input 1-2 ground screw.
It worked to eliminate the buzz! Just when the LED's come on, do I get a noise, but I'm not too worried about that just yet.
I did do all the testing in my home set-up, and have not tried it at an actual gig yet, but I will get my chance this weekend. It may go well (because they have been going well for the most part), but either way, I let you know how it turns out. It's a sweet sixteen, so I get to experiment to some degree.
Thanks again, and i'll update soon...

Hi there,
I tried something very simple last night before a gig. I wound a metal cable around one of the RMX’s ground screws (the one for the turntables). I hooked it up to the ground screws of my external mixer. Damn, did the trick. So the RMX did not freak out at all if I touched it, no problems whatsoever.
Ok, take care,
Marc

Question (as I thought I was the only one who noticed this) are you talking about the low level buzz (heard only when no music is playing) that seems to increase as more lights turn on/flash on the RMX? And did this go away with the ground mod you made, or is that the only audible buzz now?
I have noticed that if I turn my PC on first (so my speakers don't pop) and then turn the speakers on. Before the USB drivers load up and while all the lights are still flashing on my RMX, I get an audible buzz through my speakers. Obviously no music is playing yet (drivers not loaded) but, I deffinatley hear a buzz when the LEDs flash on.
Another thing, when using iTunes and not playing music, this LED buzz is not heard at all. But when iTunes is closed, the instant I open VDJ (which has the ability to turn the LEDs on) I imediatley get a buzz in the speakers that does not go away untill I close VDJ and all the lights on my RMX go out.
Has anyone else heard this?

I notice a slight hum when first connecting the RMX or turning on the PC with it already connected, that coincides with the LEDs coming on during the initialization phase of the RMX. After that, however, it goes away.

I do. I have the same exact problem. I think everybody has this problem but they don't notice or care, it depends from the system you use to amplify. If it is powerful (like my 5.1 Yamaha) you hear it clearly if you use little speakers you don't notice it. When the lights are on the noise grows, the flashing light of the play button is really annoying. I use now the Jack Pro +4db and of course it is better because the volume level is lower, but I can still hear the noise with the lights working. I'm still looking for a solution. But no cables, no changing power hubs etc is working. The concern is inside the console.

I have had a similar problem as you have described and have tried Replacing usb, manual firmware update, grounding the RMX and...
still have the problem of flashing, static shock and was wondering what your update was. Did you solve your problem?
Posté Mon 01 Feb 10 @ 9:48 pm
Has anybody tried grounding the RMX to your computer? I know with Laptops this is harder, but I (and many others) run a desktop and that should be easy.
I don't have that problem so I can't test it for you though.

I have the same problem, Buzzing coming through my speakers. If i unplug the RMX counsel it goes away or if i unplug the power cord to my laptop it also stops. I thought my counsel was going bad. Anyone have a fix? I have changed all the cables and the problem continued. I will try the grounding as it dosnt sound like it is going to help

isn't' there another thread with the same problems that had already been resolved? I think there is one. I'll try to look for it.

Yes there is a thread on this same subject, they told me to buy a Hum X. I did and the problem still exist.
