Sujet: Dell XPS 15 Laptop

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hi fellow DJ's

I am looking to get a new laptop as the one I have is old (3 years) and bulky being a Dell Studio 17" laptop.

I came across XPS 15 laptop by Dell with a lot of great features for the money, but the sale ends tomorrow.

Has anyone here used one with VDJ?

The only downfall I see is there is no USB on the right side, makes using a wired mouse a little more difficult.

For a touch more than $1200 + tax I get

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M 2GB graphics with Optimus
750GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
15.6 FHD B+RGLED TL (1920x1080) and Skype-Certified 2.0MP HD Webcam & Facial Recognition
8X Tray Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 & Bluetooth 3.0
Backlit Keyboard - English
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
JBL 2.1 Speakers with Waves Maxx Audio 3
Integrated 10/100/1000 Network Card

Through PCMark Vantage it actually beat the Macbook Pro in a lot of categories, except battery life and will cost me about $1000 less

This configuration is in line with Macbook Pro fully configured.
2.2GHz quad-core
Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz
750GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR5
Built-in battery (7 hours)2

Any thoughts

Thanks

There is a usb on the right hand side.

Thanks

I had read both of your posts, but north of the border it is going for $1300 + tax.

Plus I would like to find something a little less heavy as I do a lot of my organizing from my couch, and the one I got now gets heavy real quickly.

It is a great looking laptop though. Is this the one you are using?

Thanks for the reply

My bad when I looked at the pic I did not realize it was USB 2.0/eSATA combo port.

Reading through some reviews someone said it did not have one. (I should have paid closer attention)

No personally I like the Sony Vaio line of laptops. That is what I use but they tend to be a little pricier. The Asus are a little bulky for my liking but they pack a ton of features into them for a good price. As far as form factor goes the new Samsung laptops are pretty sweet.

I avoid HP like the plague - have had several just fall apart for no apparent reason.

I find most dells to be above average for all around value but not as customizable as other with high end features and mediocre durability.
