I'm a video DJ and have just converted over from using the Pioneer DVJs to Virtual DJ. I'm new to a lot of this so please be patient with me ;-) I reformatted all 8000 videos I have to mpeg 2 @ 9200 - they were all originally DVD rips or vobs. I'm using an external HD thru the firewire port. I'm wondering if that is too high of a bitrate? I'm having trouble with the picture quality - the videos play and look fine using Quicktime - the picture is smooth and basically perfect. However, when I use Virtual DJ the picture is not smooth and movement is somewhat "staggered". I'm going to try some different settings for video conversion and see if that works, but could it be the mpg codec? Any help would be awesome. I'm using a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with an AMD Radeon HD 6750 512mb graphics card.

I use mp4 720p, great quality and files not too big.
All my vids that come from Promo Only are mp4 too.
