I have tried for a long time to find out how this rather common "effect" is performed by DJs during live sets. As heard in the live performance by Alesso at 1:04:40

I will have to listen better at home but it just sounds like a high pass filter.

It's a high pass filter, you can do similar with the "TK Filter V2" effect (not great)

right click near the middle to set the level (the yellow bar) and then left drag up and down in the area with my drawn black bar.
VDJ 8 better allow this effect to be fully mappable
