Yes, native mapping. Hard to replicate, but it does it now and then.

If it is random and not every time it would imply a hardware rather than a software issue.
Tried changing the USB cable? Possible the button in question is damaged in any way?

You could assign sync to another button (maybe swap functions with another button that you don't use)......
