I've read many threads on this forum that explain how to get the beta builds and i have followed all the steps (ticked get beta builds on my profile), however I see no item within the advanced options on VDJ8 that i can change getbetabuilds from no to yes. Any suggestions?

1781? That's ancient. The current download version is 1872.
Unless you've got your digits in a twist, I'd suggest installing the latest download and going from there.

Yep, grab the latest full public download from this site. Then uninstall your current version, reboot, then install the latest public.
You will then have the option available within the UI.
