I'm trying to get a handle on my music in vdj. Im thinking about just dumping everything into one folder, editing all my tags to the t and using the my library folders to sort everything. does anybody do it like this?

I'd say that having just one folder with all your tracks in would be a bad idea, from an operating system/access speed point of view.
The usual recommendation is not to exceed 1000 files per folder.
When using VDJ with properly tagged files, it's not necessary to put tracks into folders named by artist, genre etc. but you do need to keep the number of files per folder under control.

I have my files sorted drive:\main folder\artist folder\album folder\track number - title.ext
(D:\Music\Metallica\Ride The Lightning\04 - Creeping Death.mp4)
I've worked long and hard on tagging my music properly. (And I still have a long way to go)
I then use virtual folders and filter folders to group tracks how I want them. Files always stay in their spot.
I have found it helps to use itunes or media monkey to actively manage my library.
