First off.
The little RED tick mark is not a great indicator that a track has been played
Second.
The fact that you can not delete the history of the played track to as to start fresh complicates the matter with dates and times on the right side of the window if you have those selected as a possible way to help track playback times and dates.

OKAY MY SUGGESTION.
Once a track has been determined to have been played, either gray it out to almost dark and allow the operator to set the number of minutes that it will need to rest before it becomes fully light again indicating it can be played again. Or you can as other software has done change the color of the track to denote it has been played and have that slowly change back to the non played color again by letting the operator determine how many minutes it must rest before it should be available to be played.
This does not stop the operator from choosing to play a track again before it has cycled but just gives the operator a notice of having already been played and roughly how long ago.
The "last played" tab should be resettable to "zero start" if the operator chooses to clear the history and view on times and a few dates until he clears the history again. This alone will help if the operator misses the RED dash on the left side.

This is a great idea but obviously no-one else thinks so ...shame really!

1) The red line can be changed on custom skins.

2) You can unset the "played" state of tracks any time you wish. Just right click on a track that has been marked as played and select "Remove played flag"
If this seems difficult to do for several tracks then you can open your History folder, open current date, mark the first track, hold SHIFT and mark the last track you wish to unset. Finally right click on any of the tracks and select "Remove Playing flag" This will work in batch and it will remove the played flag of all the selected tracks.
If you have the habit to play the same tracks more than once inside a single session there's also something else you may want to consider:
By default the history appears in the order you have played your tracks. You can rightclick on the header and select "Last Played" as a field as well. Then sort by that field and select all tracks played today until e.g. 1 hour ago. Rightclick, select "Remove played flag", done.

Finally, restarting the software removes the flag for all played tracks. So if you have 2 events within the same day when you restart your PC/Software on the second event all tracks are not marked as played anymore.
