Lots of people have written about the "audio freeze" problem, and I think that's what is happening here: intermittently, there will be a 1-2 second burst of loud buzzing sound. I think it's that some very small moment of music is getting looped.
This happens to me without a controller, and internal sound card only, while I'm recording a mix. It's strange that the mix nonetheless gets recorded correctly and doesn't include the freeze.

I haven't seen any description of how to solve the problem if I'm not using a controller. Is the problem that I'm not using a controller? Or is there something else?
