Sujet Skipping Problem when closing CD-Rom

heya , guys ..
this is my problem ...i recently upgraded to a 40x CD writer
which is my main cd rom , in my pc . while i am mixing ,
i put a cd in the cd/rom & close it ...
then it skips for about 3 secons , seeing that my mp3 collection is on cd , is there any way that i can
my pc not to do this

Ps , its a brand new CD-writer (so i dont think ist the writer )
also i have set set win98 to no read ahead as well ...
any other ideas wil be greatly aprciated !!

Is there any chance that the CD your trying to play is Depeche Mode's "Master and Servant"? :)
...because it sounds to me like it's a classic case of Master/Slave configuration.

Do you have your harddrive and CD-drive on the same IDE-channel/cable? That might lead to problems like this one where the CD takes control of the IDE-channel forcing the HDD (acting as a slave without a doubt) wait for it's turn and thereby causing a delay in the diskreading.

The solution is simple: have your harddrive and your CD-drive connected to different IDE-controllers so that you have one IDE-cable to you HDD and another to you CD or make sure that the HDD acts as a server which means that the CD would have to wait for its' turn instead which probably won't be a problem with a 40x CD-reader
