Personal preference for me, I feel more comfortable with my mixer.
I purchased my mixer when using Atomix V1.12 (I think) as my mixer gave me eq control and kills on all channels which weren't available in that version of Atomix. I've continued to use it even though the latest Atomix kills the frequencies better than my mixer.

The main purpose of a mixer is to provide better control over your mixes. An external mixer:
1) Better gain control
2) Has a better feel since it is hardware emulation
3) Has a better EQ
4) "Looks" Better too.

Eventhough you can assign multiple shortcuts to single keys, it's much better and easier to use a mixer to perform multiple functions at the same time. My mixer also has a built in effects machine which is way better then Atomix's, especially for live performances. Another thing is the UV meters on the mixer help to accuratly adjust the gain.
