Sujet VDJ not stable on brand new $2000 rackmount

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I built my new rackmount a few weeks back based on the suggestions of fellow forum members and my own research. Since then, I've installed VDJ along with a few other progs like office, light jockey, winDVD, video card updates, direct-x, etc...

I've been trying to get get familiar with the software and have come across the program unexpected quitting on multiple occasions during (normal song playback, video playback, dac-3 use, song analysis, vob file analysis). I am supposed to be using this system for the first time this Saturday but the program instability has me VERY worried.

In an attempt to squash the problem (at 11PM last night), I pulled out the XP Home disk to perform a clean install.

Here is an exact list of what I've installed since then:

ASUS MB drivers (CD-ROM)
XFX drivers (CD-ROM)
MAYA 44 DRIVERS 2.5.5 (internet)
(uninstalled orig XFX drivers)
NVIDIA 6600GT DRIVER update (internet)
windows update recommeded updates (internet)
virtual dj 3.3
boggis dac-3 mapper

After completing this task by about 1:30 am, I opened VDJ and selected my .vob folder to analyze overnight. I woke this morning to find the windows desktop with no trace of VDJ or an error dialog.

During the course of ripping my promo only DVDs with VDJ's ripper, there were times that I encoutered errors (last track of every disc and random tracks along the way). I tried to rerip most of them but sometimes I'd just move along. As a result, there was a collection of .vob files the had very small (~10mb) to no file size (0kb). I erased a major chunk of the small files but could possibly have files in there that were partially ripped and then a read error occured before completion.

Will these incomplete files crash VDJ during analysis or playing?

I am at a loss right now about the cause of VDJ's unexpected terminations.

If anyone would be able to assist me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I would really appreciate all responses to address possible causes & solutions. Any posts that simply say "vdj works fine for me" without relating it directly to my harware/software configuration should be saved for other threads.

If anyone would like to help me thru MSN chat, my email is: rpvincent@gmail.com

THANKS!!!

-Peyton

try not to analyze so much at once, i think there is an error with the way folders are setup, do a search. it happened to me doing my mp3's, i just did it smaller parts.

The crash during analyzing is just part of it.

The program quits at random times during mixing too.

I'm really looking for specific advice relating to possible harware/driver problems. I saw that ASUS has a motherboard BIOS update. Is that something I should install?

Try ver 3.2 first, and see how that works for you. Next, Rip your DVD's with "smartripper". It's free, and it works great. Do a search on this forum to find the link. I do not think the ripper that came with VDJ, has been perfected, but I could be wrong. What I do know is smartripper does work. Now you may not want to hear this, but here goes. DO NOT USE YOUR CLIENTS AS BETA TESTERS. I know you have a new toy, but if it is not stable, don't use it. They are paying you for a great performance, not the latest technology. Do not rush this. Now you will be tempted to stay up from now until the party, to get your new machine up and running. You may be able to do it, and that would be fine. If this is not a video gig, work on getting your mp3's together. If this is a video gig, I don't know how you are going to get the machine working, and rip enough DVD's to pull this off. I don't know, you may have enough time. What I can tell you is that 3.2 does work, because I am using it right now. I was using 3.3, and everything was going fine, until I changed my video card. It worked, but then it would not load. I have not had enough time to check it out. They are working on an update, but in the mean time, 3.2 works. Who said technology was gonna make your life easier? Remember when you bought your first 1200, and all you had to do was screw the cartridge to the headshell? No updates, no tweaks, no codecs, no scans. Oh well, I digress. Let us know how this works out. We are here to help.

As for the BIOS update, see what it addresses. Give them a call and see. They helped me, but I was too scared to mess with it. Plus, I don't have an A drive. They insisted that I would need one to do a BIOS update. One day I will let someone help me. When I get a new machine.

I have been using my motherboard, ASUS P5AD2-E, since July of last year without any issues. I have update the BIOS, I did install drivers for the onboard audio for headphone use. I use an internal EMU 1212M sound card no updates.

Updating drivers just to have the latest drivers can sometimes cause issues. Read the description of what the update is for, if you are not experiencing the issues listed you don't need it.

My software includes antivirus, spyware, audio/video/photo software, powerpoint, ATI multimedia studio. My audio/video files are on one RAID and the applications are on a separate RAID.

Start from scratch, install OS, VDJ and original drivers needed to run VDJ. Test system at thislevel. If no issues, add your DAC and test again. If you encounter problems, look for updated drivers that address the issue. Continue to add/test until all neccessary software is installed and system is stable.

Question: why an external card as opposed to an internal?

By the way, my day job is a System Admin in charge of a validated global application.

This sounds to me like a RAM/CPU problem.. did you overclock your mainboard? Have you run a RAM test?

I use two identical systems hardware wise, I can overclock one of them by 10% without any stability issues, while the other system wil crash and reset spontaneously if I do the same..

Again.. It smells like a hardware issue to me..l
