Hi,
I just purchased VDJ and I am very pleased with it's funtionality but I was wondering if there will be any improvements to the video text messaging function? I VJ/KJ & DJ in a night club and I like to throw up advertising and messages on the screen but I am very limited using VDJ.
For DJing I have been using Final Scratch for the past 4 years with my CDJ-1000s and it work excellent but since about a year I started playing video/karaoke at my jobs so I invested in Swift Elite which is also a good program but you can't use cd players with it and a few other miner bugs. I've been DJing for 34 years on turntables and CD players so using a mouse and the DJ controller to dj looked cheap(for lack of a better word). I had to use two different programs throughout my gigs which I found to be a pain. Virtual DJ seems to be the answer for me. I've used it a few times already and I am very pleased except for the text messaging. Please look at the Swift Elite to better understand what I mean. Is this something that can be added as a plug-in, possibly?
Peace out!,

Go to the Plugin Download page and get "StripClub" That apparently lets you change the look of the text, but I couldn't get it to work :(
In the past I have used Winamp with the MILKDROP plugin to write messages on the screen in a fancy way.

Thanks for the reply
I read somewhere that the Strip Club plug-in has crashed periodically and I checked it out and it too is very plain. I am looking at functions such as scrolling, multiple lines, fonts, 3d effects and scheduling of multiple messages.

Have you tried Winamp and the Milkdrop plugin? You can do alot of good stuff with it. Like assign keyboard shortcuts to the text e.g press 1 for "Happy Birthday Fred" 2. "Buffet Is Now Open" 3. "Last Orders"
also you can have your own images working alongside the visualisations, so if you knew the occasion before hand you can make a few pictures to use ready.
I have a few xmas one's with father christmas bouncing across the screen, cartoon singers for karaoke nights.. etc....
Try winamp.com and search the plug-in's their's bound to be one where you can do even more with the text than Milkdrop lets you do.

That was my next question. Do the Milkdrop plugins work with VDJ?

to my knowledge only sonique visual plug-ins work with vdj. you CAN run milkdrop by itself along side vdj, but can suck a lot of resources. I know it can "listen" for beats for beatactive visuals. I am going to try and play around with it some. I also would love to be able to toggle the "display song name" function on a skin. i like to be able to display the song name, but not for the whole duration of the song... or it would be nice to have a time setting... so like it will display the title for lets say 15 seconds then disappear. the alternative to more detailed text is to just make .jpg files in paint or something and show those via slide show option... just have them in separate folders (i.e. last call on photos, now taking your requests, etc.) or just setting a very long duration on the timer.
my luck by the time i finish a better txt plugin there will be a new update that will have it implemented already.

I totally agree. VDJ could use a better instant text engine-or whatever it's called. I used MixMiiester before VDJ, and that text option works very well and nice. I've learned to use the image slide show and it works probably better than intant text, but needs to be premade.
What I am saying is, it would be nice if the text window had more options, and I'm obviously not the only one who feels this way:P

I agree.
I have been using PCDJ old red, alongside R4. PCDJ for the audio, and R4 for the visuals, it has an awesome titling engine, but now that I have switched to Virtual DJ I can't have VDJ and R4 sharing the second monitor. As I'm mainly playing Music videos I need something thats built into VDJ to do drink specials, DJ Now Playing, Show Comming up, Request a song ect announcements.
Anyone thats Plug in savvy want to help?

I know it is kinda an old post but, I have never been able to get milkdrop to run alongside of vdj. Aside from be a huge cpu resource hog, I have never actually got it to respond to beats reliably. I have also seen post for the wbsite for more visualtions for sonique. But I get routed to some movie review site or something. I would like have some more. Infact I did a gig last night for 5 hours and some people related some of the visualtions as cartooney. And some are.
Does anyone no if other visualtions like the type seen with milkdrop are available for VDJ????
Or even better, I wonder if V 4.0 will be different in this area?

I'm also looking for the same kind of feature. Hopefully the development team is taking notice :)

I think, the best place for this request is the "new features" forum.

milkdrop is a plugin for winnamp, when it runs as a plugin in winamp it has 0 latency access to the music information but with line in on WDM latencies can be as high as 400ms with processing and graphics latency all together. Thats never going to be bang on, there is a plugin for R4 that lets you use ASIO1.0 drivers for next to 0 latency but it meens that you cant use a large frame buffer so its harder on your gfx card.
personaly i think R4 is hard to beat, some of the new milkdrop presets kick ass but R4 is versatile, you can even load up your own images to be effected. much more brand savvy than milkdrop. and the 2 screen VJ mode is much better than milkdrop, infact you can controll the visulaisations via a small controll program on another computer linked by LAN. so you could have a dedicated VJ and DJ rig all controled from the same computer

I like R4 but it is a resource hog also. It uses a ton of cpu time. Unless I just don't have it configured propertly.
But you are right, very nice graphics with it.
