Sujet Ipod Scratching - Integrate through Midi might be cool!

miJam Mixer is designed for use with either the iPod, or one of the other miJam accessories. Like the Guitar, it requires four AA batteries, and can lay down a beat against the passed-through music from your iPod. There are two turntable-like “scratching” surfaces on its face, each making two different sound effects from the other, depending on which way the surface is pushed, and switching between “scratch,” “digi,” and “voice” modes. Scratch sounds like an album scratch, digi like a synthesizer riff, and voice like a short voice sample, each triggered by movement on the scratching dials. You can also cue up a short drum solo or a synthesizer riff with drums cue and digi cue buttons, adjust the tempo of the background beat, and independently adjust the volume levels of the iPod music and the Mixer’s output. The miJam logo glows blue when the unit is turned on.

I fail to see the relevance to VirtualDJ here. It's just another"let's rehash and old idea and make it look 'cool' with an iPod" gimmick.

And even funnier is that many people believe their iPod is what makes all these 'cool effects' possible.. just hilarious..

OW!! Too much cheap white plastic...it hurts :(

Notice the use of the word "Toy" with "iPod compatible" (Frankly, both are turn-offs for me)

My ideal [mobile] set-up is iDJ2 http://www.numark.com/ as my main mixer, 2 [very light and useful] Numark ttUSB turntables http://www.numark.com/, my Hercules MK2 as my digitizer/sound card/back-up mixer and compact controller [instead of just a digitizer/sound card like Virtual Vinyl, Final Scratch's Scratch Amp, etc] http://www.hercules.com/showpage.php?swcty=UK&p=127&b=0&f=0 which I can use for those gigs where I don't need turntables, and VDJ 4 for Mac on my MacBook Pro.

Life wiil be good in August, when the final piece of that puzzle ships!

The relevance of this post is that all types of manufacturers are trying to cash in on the MP3 mixing craze. Yes, this product is cheap but keep in mind that sometimes, what starts out as a "toy" today becomes a full fledge product tomorrow. Example: Hercules. I remember not too long ago when folks on the forums where calling that a toy even though many of these same folks use it for professional gigs. LOL!

The truth is that with companies like Denon stepping into the scene, new hardware is finally being release that truly will be integrated with Virtual Dj. This is a good thing for those new people who want to learn or get into Djing but don't have the thousands of dollars to do so, and a bad thing for the purist who can't stand to see someone desecrate the ancient art of the Turntable gods. At the end of the day its all about how much time, effort, and positive energy you want to put into whatever tool you use for creating music.

These forums are great because they allow us to talk about all the good and bad things about the Dj software and hardware world. This is why Virtual Dj has so much support, because folks speak honestly today and make sure to help because they believe in the software and its users.

I encourage more folks to post any new hardware that they see being released. Why? Because it stimulates discussion and lets us seperate the good from the bad.

Today its an Ipod Mixer... tomorrow it will be Virtual Glasses integrated into a hologram world where you can mix simply with your hands and a cable interface. LOL!

Who knows what the future will bring... Que Sera, Sera!

Cuidate!
