lol dude i dint mention vdj at all its nothing to do with vdj its to do with some sort of ground loop problem from the mk2

potentialy from the usb as you say , might not be able to ground over it not sure

Its easy to test if its a ground loop problem (VERY common problem with audio hardware).

1) Run Laptop on batteries only, and test if the humming is gone (if true = Ground loop)
2) If you dont have a laptop, move the desktop to a different power outlet, or try non-ground powercord or extention cord, and see if hum goes away (if true=ground loop).

@Norway I too thought it had something to do with ground loop, but as it turns out it wasn't that. I have had this happen at the Bowling alley, in the bar of the Lanes and also at home. Usually a reboot of the system has made it go away, but sometimes it takes 2 or 3 reboots hope that helps a little.

okey, that definitively rules out ground loop.

Maybe the MK2 is underpowered .. Laptop? If laptop, go to hardware devices, lokate EACH usb root port, and go to settings, and UNCHECK the "allow windows to turn off power on this device to save battery".

The USB powermanagement is one nasty dude.. turn that off.

Also, instead of reboot, next time it happens, try just moving the MK2 to a different port...
Does that get rid of the noise? If so, maybe a bad usb port...

I am currently using a Desk Top, but I will try the move to a different port. I never thought of that, I will also try my external power supply for the MK2. I haven't used that in awhile, but hopefully that will solve this issue. If it happens again I will let you know as it didn't happen Monday when I DJed. I DJ tomorrow night so we will see.

Thank you SKYFX for your help with this. I have found the same things out with my own testing. The only thing is that my noise is not a "buzz", it's a hiss that pretty much covers the whole frequency spectrum. And I'd really rather not have to drag an extra line mixer(that would also need a power supply) around with me. I'm really hoping that there's a small resistor or transformer that I can put inline to insure that this wouln't be a problem, no matter how crappy the sound system I'm playing on is.

I'm reposting the message from the thread that you shut down because I really think it will lead to the awnser I'm looking for.

I would greatly appriciate anyone who can do this test for me:

Get a pair of those crappy IPod, earbud headphones and plug them into the mini output (1+2 or 3+4) of your MK2 while it's usb cable is connected to your computer.

Is it silent or is there a nasty hissing noise?

If you have this noise, can you explain it?

I've been told that it has something to do with the impedance of the output because I can run it thru a good amp and the noise isn't a problem.

By the way, It doesn't sound like DISCOBRIAN is having the same problem as me, but I think everyone else is.

Yes I feel this is the same problem, it is a hiss not a buzz. Does this happen to you as soon as the MK2 is plugged in??

My noise starts as soon as my MK2 is plugged in. I put all the details about my problem earlier.

The differance between your problem and mine is that Rebooting has never helped. My noise is always there.

I figured it out. The way to eliminate the crackling is when you select the sound card DO NOT CLICK ON THE HERCULES DJ COUNSEL PICTURE IN THE PULL DOWN MENU!!!!!!!!

Click the ASIO driver at the bottom, then select the DJ counsel from the ASIO pull down menu, then click set up counsel and it should work.

Sant this is not a crackling problem, it is a hissing problem that is occuring even when VDJ is not open.
