it would simplify all of our lives if vdj had a configuarion wizard.
it would scan the computer for the specific hardware.
cpu, ram, sound card, mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc.
then, it would ask the user some additional stuff.
example: would you like to use tcv, tccd, or none.
explaining what each item is.
after that, it would make a two column list of taks needed to be made for optimal settings.
on the left: description of the taks.
on the right: check box
on the bottom of the page: perform checked boxes.
the most important thing is to config the soundcard and usage.

its quite simple to do these things now with the sound config options alot of softwares you would have to route audio and edit all the channel settings
aslo there would be to many hardwares to add to such a wizzard for example things like timecode cd these are different for almost every cd player so it would be very hard to a wizzard to work it out.
could help some users but could anoy some users aslo
windows issued such a wizzard before vista came out it had many issues with acuracy in detection of software and hardware the company with the wizzard would need to have all of the available hardware on the market as a list of settings , and would need to update this regulary
might be useful but not sure it would always be pratical

my main conern is the "performances" tab.
skins, soundcard, whatever, we can somehow manage to get passed that stage.

its quite simple , you start low , then move up until your computer exeriances a problem then you set it a notch below that level :)

not realy because it woudlnt fit every ones machine as every one has a different peice of kit and they need to have a play to get the best out of it :)

i like the concept but , a report on many machines would have to be collected and stored as definations which would need some sort of webupdate so that it knows what to choose ,
just would take alot of time effort and potentialy capital expenditure if u get me :)
