my guess, within the next 2 weeks.
Posté Fri 16 Feb 07 @ 8:16 pm
Will that be for beta testing or for the rest of us?

a mystery :)

It's our own fault for setting false expectations.
When Atomix Corporate Staff posted on these forums that the Mac version of VDJ would be available "around Christmas" back in August when VDJ 4 was released, WE assumed they meant Christmas 2006.
I''ll need to be more specific next time and ask the anticipated year as well. ;)

let's not all forget my original estimate. march-april timefrtame. i'm sure they really want me to not be right about that,.. but time is running out...

well the Numark Virtual Vinyl package is set the release late March, and I just got it confirmed that it's still on track for that release date...I also got confirmed that Numark CUE will be ready for MAC at Frankfurt MusikMesse...so we'll just have to see if that's true or not...:)

Yeah, I never expected it to be ready "around Christmas" anyway. I've stated several times that I had always expected at least a month after Christmas, probably 2 months after, and possibly up to 3 months after.
The original expectation for Virtual Vinyl had been set for October so I don't think that a major company like Numark would tolerate anymore than a 6 month delay (March) from that original missed ship date.
But thank gawd nothing was shoved out the door back in October because it would have been total crap of microsoftian proportians! =P

Who are you getting these "confirmations" from? they just sound like educated guesses that are in line with what we are all saying.
About 9 months ago, I got "confirmation" by Numarks HQ here in the states that Virtual Vinyl would ship in October, and so distributors like Pro Sound & Stage Lighting all had things on their online stores that said "Expected in our warehouse: 10/06". Strike 1.
When I asked them about it in November, they "confirmed" a late January/early February release. Strike 2.
I'm just hoping that there is no Strike 3 or else I'm out.
Me and my trntablist partners can hold out for a few more months if someone else comes out with video mixing capabilities and is already dominant. My VDJ/VV flag waving and efforts to keep others from using (or simply waiting for) alternatives is starting to lose appeal, becuae the major appeal of VDJ/VV was that it would be released far in advance of any competitor offering the same or even just similar features.
Time is of the essence, but so is quality.

Cool.
I wasn't ridiciuling anyone, I was just asking because, as I stated, I have been getting confirmations from Numark's Headquarters here in the US since last year, and distributors don't really seem to know anything more than what most of us can find out on our own.
Good to hear though! =)

That said, it doesn't actually means it will be released in March.
But Numark has improved a lot in estimating delivery time for products the last 9-10 months...so I'm crossing my fingers that they won't let us down on this one.
@ConQuest:
You might be happy to know that I recently switched to MAC (november) and I am totally satisfied.(And thinking, WHY didn't I switch sooner??Like many others..)
But the only thing letting me down at the moment is that I have to settle for working with CD's or Serato since there is no MAC version of VDJ/VV/CUE yet. And I can't manage to get bootcamp up and running properly...which means I'm stuck untill release...which is PAIN..hehe
Btw, maybe you can PM me if you'd like the help me get bootcamp up and running properly? ;)
@Norway:
Jasså ja, du følger med Rune?hehe..det er bra ;)

whether k_one is a numark dealer or not,.. NO ONE can give an accurate release date of software that has not yet been written. period. any "confirmation" he might have gotten was a guess and nothing more than a guess. until the software is completed and released to manufactuing, all estimated ship dates are just wild guesses. as the list of "things to do before release" gets shorter, the guesses are less wild, but they are still guesses.
the next software developer who can accurately tell me exactly how long it will take to write, debug, test and QA a complex piece of software,.. will be the first to do so.

That's all I'm trying to say. Nothing is for certain and at best, everything is an "educated guess" at this point. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that nothing is set in stone quite yet. =)
I'm starting to cross parts of my body that I didn't even think that I could physically cross in order to get VDJ Mac/VV Mac out the door asap (but NOT before it's done)! =P
LOL!
That is EXACTLY why everytime I tell people on these forums that I've heard that SAME comment from THOUSANDS of people that I've switched over the past 4 years, and the people on these forums don't believe me, I just laugh at them because they are showing just how clueless they are of the realization that is occurring among the computer using masses worldwide.
Most notably here in the US at the moment but the Eastern Hemisphere will start taking notice of the windows to Mac "switcher" movement starting this year after Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is released and as more windows users find out they've been robbed with vista. ;)
I've been using VDJ on my MacBook Pro with BootCamp windows since last April and it works fine. Boot Camp is REALLY easy to set up.
Aren't we all? =(
None of us can use our favorite software natively on our favorite OS yet. We either use something that is Mac native like yo have to, or we have to go through the hell of tolerating windows just to use VDJ.
I'm gonna throw a party when VDJ Mac is released and I can finally dump windows off of my Mac and into the trash where it belongs. =D

1. Make sure you've got ALL the latest updates for Mac OS X (run "Software Update", the second option under your "Apple Menu" (the Blue Apple logo) at the upper left hand corner of your screen).
2. Then make sure you've got the latest version of firmware for your Intel Mac BEFORE doing ANYTHING else: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303880
3. Download BootCamp version 1.1.2 at http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
4. Double click the Boot Camp installer.
5. Go to your "Utilities" folder and launch Boot Camp.
6. Grab a blank cd to burn the drivers for your Mac hardware for use in windows. (You won't use this cd until AFTER you've finished installing windows).
7. Select the "Burn a Mac Drivers cd" option and burn your disc.
8. Slide the hard drive partiton bar to the left or right to give windows as much space as you want.
8. Select the "Start the windows installer" option and then just install windows normally as you would on any computer.
9. AFTER windows is installed, load you Mac Drivers cd and then you're done.
GOOD LUCK k_one!

I've done all these steps, but still I end up with some hardware not being installed properly. (I get 2-3 of those yellow ? in my device manager)
I'll post some screenshots to show you what I mean....

Remember that Boot Camp is still beta so everything isn't supported yet, although that hasn't stopped me from being able to use VDJ for windows on Mac via BootCamp flawlessly (other than the typical windows OS instability issues that have caused the system to freeze a few times).
But go ahead and postyou screen shots and I'll take a look at my system to see if we have he same missing drivers or unsupported devices. =)

Boot Camp lets you nativly install Windows on a mac.
So arent those yellow driver errors a Windows issue? Meaning you just need to install them right in Windows, with right drivers.
Even if you clean install Windows on a PC, you'll get those yellow marks, until you have installed the drivers.

yeah, but the MAC driver CD is supposed to take care of this...
and I've seen bootcamp MAC's work of the first install...so I'm starting to suspect the Windows CD I've got...

The most important thing mentioned here regarding boot camp is the fact that it is still beta. I would expect these issues to be worked out by the time the product is released. You can't reasonably expect a beta product to work as if it were a release product. If it did, then it wouldn't be beta.
For example, my mac encountered a blue screen of death while mixing videos with bootcamp/WinXP. First I got a little frustrated and then I realized that it's beta software. These are the kinds of things that happen when you rely on beta software. Nothing to be frustrated about.

I know it's BETA, so I'm not hatin' on BootCamp, but I'm just frustrated that I don't have a MAC version of VDJ/VV/CUE yet..hehe..and the fact that certain other people are using bootcamp and vdj, and it's working perfectly..hehe
