Sujet Your karaoke ZIP programs won't play? Solution

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

If you have some ZIP'ed karaoke files that give you an error in VDJ, here's the solution:

You've over compressed them. You can check my blog on the proper way to extract and compress CDG files, but if you are beyond that and just have the zip file, unzip it!

After you've unzipped it, get rid of the zipped file... you may have files that are NOT named properly, so make sure you know the www.kjpro.com labeling system and then read my blog on how to rename.

After you've unzipped the ERROR cdg zips, take and rezip them... this time use normal compression, not the maximum (usually 5 out of a 1 to 10 scale). This usually works.... if it doesn't, grab the .cdg file and drag it to vdj and see if it plays, if it doesn't, you may have a bad file... the cdg and mp3 file should have the same name (EVEN IN THE ZIP FOLDER!)

I have over 130,000 karaoke files that if it was the cure would not be practical, anyway as I have said previousley all (ALL) my files work perfectly in club djpro sax and dotty swift elite and even otsdj so its only virtulal dj that doesn`t work, again stating the obvious, as a coder myself......there is a problem with the cdg/zip decoder in virtual dj. Instead of trying the get a work around the problem which like I said would be impratical, why dont we have a fix or patch. ?

Karaokeman,
Maybe you can tell me what is going on in my dilemna.
I've got some karaoke zip files that will originally play well
in VDJ, all of them. The real problem is when I UNZIP them
to bin files in order to make custom cdg discs with another program,
then REZIP the bin files back to zip files using mp3toolz, the newly
REZIPPED bin files do not play at all in VDJ. This procedure is 100% effective
in getting my zip files to NOT play after being "rezipped.".

I have used normal compression, no compressio, and even other
zipping programs. Just that that process of "unzip w/mp3toolz and rezip"
has a negative effect on the functionality of ALL the zip files in VDJ.

I'm in the same boat. I have 175,392 karaoke songs. Think I'm going to convert them to work with VDJ? Not. It 'would' be easier to have one software.... but the search function in Sax N Dotty is 100 times better as well.

If VDJ fixes this and comes up with a better search engine... I'll make the switch.

FWIW, for those who have never used Sax-N-Dotty.... Say you want Turn The Page by Bob Segar.

You can type in "Turn Segar" and get the song. With Sax..it's a case of having to type in Turn The Page and hope you get results..

You can do the same thing in VDJ.

Just type turn the page - and every title that has those words will show up.

I don't understand what everyone is complaining about the recordcase about. I really can't. I have thousands of songs as well but they are not organized at all. Just on a hard drive.

After scanning them in VDJ I was good to go. When mixing I sort by BPM, When just playing music (country, classic rock) I sort my artist. Just let VDJ scan the files overnight or while at work.

CAn't really say I have any issues with VDJ's record case. I like it the way it is.
Simple fast.
