It is nice but I don't see practical use of this.

hoffan u can use along with a midi device because these are just keyboard shortcuts. So u can easily use both. heres the link to them:

How does my computer and VDJ know if I assign a shortcut to key 1 if it means my laptop keyboard or the remote controller?

well whatever u assign to the #1 will work on both keyboards.

The Keys are already mapped... But you could also clear them all and start from scratch...
I have a Hercules so i just wanted this for triggering samples.
1,2,4,6, and maybe some others will need to be "changed"
I actually selected "add new"
-then you punch in the key (e.g. #7)
-Set it to the command you want (in my case play sample 1)((some setting value knowledge maybe be needed, but usually it`s explained))
-Then I had to "delete" the original assignment for #7 (if it had one)
It might of been easier to do "change" key...
Note that a hot key can trigger more then one thing if it is set. Like when I went to add my [num 4] command, it was doing a 4 bar loop and playing a sample. I then realized why change would of worked better. But I also found out I can make one key do two things- It was a good mistake.
Also for the targus controller to work you will have to hit the function key+numlock on your laptop.
