just wondering if both cores would be used if used with vdj, or just 1?
if not might as well get athlon 64 bit proc for a laptop instead :-p. and it'll be win xp dunno how some of u guys use memory hoggin vista for vdj.

VDJ uses both cores, and in a good way. Dual core gives significant performance improvements.
Vista also gives aditional improvements to DirectSound and video.
So if the system have pleny of ram (2 gig), the memory use of Vista itself aint a problem
:)

o cool thx i just want the songs to load fast b/c i use a 256 mb laptop ( i know dont laugh ) just for vdj and i can like sit down and go on my desktop and play a game while iw ait for the song to laod up, so forget mixing

Song load shouldnt be that slow on a 256mb laptop, unless you have a REALLY slow CPU as well ;)
Loading songs on my Vista dual core system, with 2 gig ram is SUPER fast..
And a lot faster than on my laptops single core P4 system...
Specially so with video files, where P4 one core 1 gig ram takes its time to load ;)
On my dual core system videos loads as fast as mp3s

its ok if ur loading one but using timecoded vinyls and laoding 2 at same time its a minute or more... and then if a table is playing its even slower...
so as for messing with a ssong (doubles) then changing one table to mix it in its gonna take long the song will end before its finished lol

What happens if you analyse the file before loading it? How long does it take to analyse a track? You can do this by rightclicking it in the filebrowser.
Posté Wed 01 Aug 07 @ 10:37 pm
man lets not even talk about that LOL
like 2 mins or more with the left table playing a song on timecode. I didn't even play both tables prob go to 3 or so ... :-/
its:
256 mb mem
pentium 4 mobile cpu 1.6 ghz.
gfx card... well its some crap ass onboard but can play quake 3 good and below...
my desktop it loads instant tho :
amd athlon 64 bit 3400+
geforce fx 5500
1 gig mem
buti dont use a desktop :-p
oh and analyze that's just to test it and get the bpm to show in browser? would be a REAL NICE update if once you played a song ONCE or analyzed, then you can put it on your table whenever you wanted and it wouldn't have to analyze everytime u put it on the table it would remember. if it did that then i wouldn't have the problems I do now i'd just analyze all the songs

it took 1 min, 17 secnds with no songs playing to analyze one song (ginuwine - in those jeans)
Posté Wed 01 Aug 07 @ 11:24 pm
its only analyzed ONCE
Thats why first time loading can be longer (gets bpm, gain etc)
Second time you load the song, it will also show a loading progress bar. But thats simply loading into RAM of your PC. And if that is VERY slow, your RAM must be very slow too, or too little (used by system, so VDJ need to use fake ram, as in harddisk space)
Also, check your windows page file and free harddisk space.
It should be 1.5x your physical ram, and always have at least 2x your physical ram as free space on harddrive (AT LEAST)
or else Windows will perform bad.
But your PC might be old, and have slow ram, or be cluttered with lots of "hogs" that eats up your ram (spyware, adware, trojans, backgroud apps, antivirus etc)

after upping the paging to 512 it took 37 seconds to analyze the same song.. ima up it 256 or 512 mb more b/c all im using the laptop for is vdj anyway. it has like 9 gb free hard disk space (only had 20 gb hdd with dual booting linux).
hopefully tho i find something in the store when I go laptop shopping tomorrow I know how hard it is to find what you REALLy want ina store without having to order it custom

Set "let windows control page file" :) works better
And page file at 500mb is too little anyway, should be at least 1.5 your physical ram.
But its better to set "let windows control"
if you are getting new laptop, check out Acer.
They usually have good price and good components :)

I use a Toshiba satalite Pro laptop with Xp and VDJ.It's a intel dual core 1.88ghz and 1gb of ram.
It's fine, had no problem with it, My laptop is dedicate to my music and VDJ. Some advice a pro told me was to get rid of all the rubbish that is on the Laptop when you get it, and only stick to what you need.

I have and several others in my area have HPs and don't have this problem. Maybe on some lower models but not the higher end models.

A lot of laptops gpu driver issues are simply to do with a re-distribution issue which laptop oem's have with ati and nvidia. Ati users can use the DHModTool and Nvidia users should go to the laptopvideo2go website for gpu drivers. I'm not sure about integrated intel chipsets, but those are mainly on the lower model laptops. My HP is flawless.

so if u get dell.. well lets not talk about dell.. if u get hp make it a good one with no onboard stuff... and if u gettin anything else good or lower end get toshiba or acer?
Posté Thu 02 Aug 07 @ 1:06 am
sound like a good choice ;)

I think we have come to a good conclusion.
Another good thing about Toshiba Laptops is that, the most of them are quite slim.
