I'm just passing along this rumored info (but fairly credible because of the source AND Apple's patent filings from yesterday and September 2005) for anyone who may be looking for an ultra-portable form factor notebook, which Apple currently does not offer. That may change soon though. ;)
I personally am looking to build an ultra portable dj setup for any audio only gigs where I won't need my turntable/Virtual Vinyl/!5" MacBook Pro setup. I'm looking at using (hopefully) this rumored Mac ultra portable and Numark iDJ2 controller with my iPhone (yes, it might work: http://forums.numark.com/showthread.php?p=1460#post1460 ) or an iPod (if the iPhone doesn't work the way iIneed it to) need that will.
Now that would be my ideal mini set-up for simple gigs! =D

Hmm, I wonder what the price point would be. I would like a macbook (non-pro) powered type machine 14" and smaller for travelling to uni with. My current windows laptop was more of a desktop replacement, which served me well in the first year but now I would like something smaller. Seeing as all the technologies we use are cross platform I could be interested in a mac purchase. It just depends on the price.

THAT is the million dollar question my friend. Most computer manufacturers (but not Apple) have historically follwed the "less is more" pricing model because smaller computer parts cost more to manufacture than larger ones.
That's why an "ultra-portable" Sony notebook would cost over $2000, while you could get a standard 15" or even 17" for less than that.
Now Apple's pricing model has always followed the "smaller form factor, lesser price" rule, where a (I'll use the discontinued PowerBook line as an example) 12" PB was less than the 15" PB which was less than the 17" PB.
Now, the 13" MacBooks are of course less than the 15" & 17" MacBook Pro's because they are not as well featured and are Apple's consumer line, where as the MBP's are the professional line.
So I'm guessing that if this "ultra-portable" Mac is of the MB/consumer variety, that it will hopefully come in at the sub-$1000 price point and that Apple will market it as the "first Mac notebook at under $1,000"... of course it will cost $999.99. =P
A lot of us Mac users are hoping that it will be "the return of the discontinued small form factor professional Mac notebook" (formerly the 12" PowerBook, but I'm hoping for an 11" widescreen this time). If this is the case, then we figure that it will come in at the $1500-$1700 price point as the entry level MBP, which currently is the 15" MBP at $2000.
What the heck?! I hope Apple does BOTH! =)

This is rumored to be a 10" or 11" widescreen form factor ultra-portable Mac.
Just look at Apple's patent images in the link i provided in this threads first post. It's obviously a widescreen, and possibly a small form factor. =)
