Sujet: Virtual Folders disappeared after a power disruption - why?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I decided to give v5.2 a spin at tonight's wedding reception, after playing with it for a week and building a new set of virtual folders.

Here's the problem - there was a very short power outage at the venue (about 20 seconds total). My laptop didn't miss a beat, as it switched to its battery automatically. However, my external hard drive did shut down.

When the power came back on, Windows XP detected the external drive and VDJ also displayed it in the browser window. However, all of my virtual folders were missing. I still don't know where they disappeared to or if there's a way to get them back in this instance. Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

I switched back to 4.3 after the power outage and had no problems.

It's maybe the problem with 5.0 but you cannot expect that anything works ok if power fluctuate or is missing ;) Computer do not like that :)

The computer shouldn't have a problem with that; the computer automatically switches to battery power in the event that the adapter is unplugged.

There's got to be a better answer to this problem, and hopefully one of the mods can help out... it was my understanding that VDJ 5.x stores the database file on the external drive, so that when a drive is plugged in, the virtual folders set up for that drive automatically appear. In my case, the virtual folders never came back.

Wish I could get the easy-to-master database of 4.x combined with the one-player automix from 5.x... my work would be so much easier.

No everything worked exactly as it should. If the database is not visible it would not show the favorites.
Now you said that once the drive's power came back on, you were able to see the drive in the Desktop navigation? But your favorites did reshow?
Test this at home. Set everything up, launch VDJ, turn off the external, power it back on, Minimize then restore VDJ do you see your favorites back?

The left navigation area needs to be refreshed once the drive is detected. Now it doesn't need to be as drastic as a minimize/restore but it does the trick.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I tried to replicate the problem tonight but couldn't get the problem to happen again. Good to know about the need to refresh.
