Sujet: Permission to release mixes?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

So I have finished a few mixes and now I want them to be downloaded from an audio host (xstreamist.com) or even send free cd's via mail. Now do I need to get permission from the artists of those tracks before doing so? I really don't know how it works but just want to be safe :)

in theory yes;)

But as long as you charge ZERO cash, and the distribution is not insanely large, noone will care, and it will be seen as a promo mix for you.

Awesome! Thanks! The tracks are all Trance genre and some of the artists are Blank and Jones, Redd Square, a Pual Oakenfold remix, Above and beyond. Should I stick with artists that are less known?

No, just don't make them shared a lot, keep it like promo only for dj's etc.

Doest matter... as Alf said, as long as its small time distribution, and no money involved, the industry allows it (or look the other way actually) :)
Legal its not, but noone cares as long as its within what can be called promotion for your dj skills (Fair Use)

You can read a lot more here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixtape

DJs giving out mixtapes have been common since the day DJs started.

Wow lots of info! You guys rock! Thanks

I just looked you up, and know where you are, and I'm telling.

loool;)

hope that's a joke

it is ;) dont worry

Mr Man & His Music is our local funny guy at this forum ;) with his ironic dark humor;)

it was meant as a joke :)

k :) I like his dj setup

Just know that the mixtape thing is as old and as common as djing itself, almost even at the core of djing.. :)

Lots of places where DJs meet and exchange mixtapes/mixes for feedback and fame :)

such as:
http://www.gtimixtapes.net/
http://www.musicv2.com/
http://www.acidplanet.com/

and LOADS more ;) even iTunes and some others main actors in the music scene have podcasts of dj mixes

And this is what you DON'T wanna do:
http://www.mixtapesusa.com/
(commecially selling mixtapes - and these kind of places gets busted)
