This is a bit crazy.
Set up last night. Loaded song on deck A, very slow loading.
Starting to play then loaded song onto deck B. Sound from
deck A dropped. Attempted 3 different time with same results.
Then while loading track again on deck B, it only loaded ¼
of the track. (Previously played). Now here’s where it get even
worse. The screen changes to a fog like effect. Completely
locked up. Then screen goes black but the song still is playing.
Rebooted and loaded VDJ. The fog like screen is back.
VDJ closed, no crash guard report, no smiley face.
Really stumped on this. Anyone have any ideas of what to
look for so I can get things back up again.?

System is a Toshiba laptop Satellite A135-S4527. Intel 2080 processor.
Dual core. Windows Vista.

That's a very strange one, were you playing video or just audio.

I 've had it when the audio stops dead, and the screen freezes, but when you try and shut down VDJ, it says something like "would you like to quit VirtualDJ down while music is playing, but it's not.

What has done me with this "crash" is how your screen went foggy, and you restarted VDJ again and it stayed foggy, could it be a Laptop/windows problem rather than VDJ. But Toshiba Laptops are normally solid. Strange indeed.

What Performance settings are you running on and if using Herc mk2, what's your asio buffer set at.

Turned system on today and it seems ok. Haven't had time to try vdj just yet.
Not using Herc. Connected to mixer with external drive.
Asio buffer? Have no idea what that is or how to check.
Performance originaly set at: Latency 512 Safe mode, overclock. enhanced algorithim.
This is what it was always set to . Changed to 1024 latency no help.

Is there a chance that airflow was restricted and the CPU overheated? I had a very strange crash long ago, only to find that my air intake was blocked by a piece of paper that had ended up under the laptop (also a Toshiba)...No air meant overheating. It never happened again.

Nope, this happened as soon as I booted up.
Here's an update. Tried to open VDJ, ,it took about 5 min
to boot up. All other opened fine.
When it finally opened I got a pop up saying external
drive corrupted, go to config and fix.
Did that got drive to open and loaded tunes again.
Once again sound drops. This is when I am not hooked to mixer,
just using speakers in computer. However that is when it is set to
headphones in the config menu (for preview purposes). It did not work this way before.
If I change sound card to single output, the sound is okay.
Set filter to show all files on ext. drive. When I go to that it only shows 5 tracks.
Now the fog effect is back. Pop up says Virtual is not responding. Close program or wait
for it to respond.
Ain't nothing happening. This is crazy as the system never goes on the internet,
this is strictly for VDJ.
Any guru's out there know what possibly could be going on??

Hmmm...Strange. There was one other instance where I had trouble (you reminded me of it in your last post). I was testing at home and had sound on single output, but I had set it up for "simple low latency." Had all kinds of problems with sound, etc., until I changed it back :(

What version of VDJ are you using, BTW?

Using 5.04. Today I am going to delete all VDJ. Delete & recopy music files to external drive.
Then reinstall VDJ again.
Don't know what else to do at this point.
Very frustrating. Ver 3.4 never gave me any problems.

Things just keep getting better.
Went to recopy music files onto the external and get an I/O error device error.
So now the drive has taken a dump. This is the second one in the past 5 months.
It is a Seagate freeagent. First one lasted about a week, they replaced it. Now this one
took a dump. They are going to replace it, but it's just the hassle.
All files were lost.

Man, that is a major bummer >:-(

Hope you don't have a pressing gig to get ready for.

I have one every Sunday. But it's not that a big of a deal.
I have s shuttle I carry as a back up to the laptop. Usually I
use the shuttle as my main, but for the Sunday thing I go with
the laptop as it is easier. I don't need any speakers, amps etc.
Everything is there and all I do is plug in.
Seagate is sending me a new drive. Just is upsetting that
this is the second gone bad. First one lasted about a week.

I'll keep this in mind the next time I find myself shopping for a drive, for sure!

The free agent sucks - I have 2 of them....luckily, knock on wood, none have died....but the connections for the USB ports in the back are as loss as heck and I am always nervous that it just might come undone, that's how loose they are! I am going to buy a new drive tomorrow, and I think that I am going to go with Western Digital, I haven't heard too many bad things about them and a lot of good.

I have been through a Lacie once - that crapped out on me. Years ago I had some maxtors, when I first started Digital DJing, but I quickly grew out of those (60 gb's). Man, finding a good hard drive can be HARD!
