Sujet external dvd burner enclosures

Hi,

does anyone know if you can plug a dvd to regular 3.5 inch hard disc enclosure ?

I know it would not fit in the box but would it work if i connected the eide plug and the power plug that is in the enclosure and connect the box via usb to my pc ?
