Sujet Heat Sync Coils...

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hey guys, just curious ... Can you use plastic tie straps to hold down a heat sync coil to the motherboard for the processor? That sounds a little unsafe to me.

Thanks in advance.

It is, the plastic would eventually melt. Not too mention once the aluminum is cracked any benefits of the sink are lost.....heat travels along the sink..once it is cracked..it is worthless....

I agree...if you need to re-anchor the heatsink, either buy the replacement part or get a new heatsink and fan.Not only do you run the risk of potentially damaging other parts on the motherboard, but you also run the risk of inefficient cooling of the processor due to weak contacts between the processor and copper heatsink. Some symptoms of inefficient cooling: excessive heat (obviously), random freezing and application crashes, etc...
