Sujet: what kinda needles/cartridge to buy?

just trying to get my future setup together...whats the best kinda middle class needles/cartridge I need to buy for turntables? Im gonna be scratching but mostly mixing....im not going to scratching like im trying to win the DMC...but im just gonna b remixing songs and scratching my songs into da next track!

Buy the Shure M44-7. You can use any (Ortofon, Stanton Etc) needle you want but the fact is, The shure has a Very High MV output for a better timecode reading and less problems with the time code wave forms etc.
 
thanx..just what i wanted to know....I've been looking at those...i wonder how long they last... I do about 2 gigis a month!
 
hey calienta...what kinda laptop and soundcard u use?....just asking cuz of the latency I here about...I know macs are very good with djing...but i have an 17"hp with intel duo 2 core processor 2.20gh... 4gb memory...220 gb hardrive...I just want to be able to mix with turntables without worring about latency!

Ortfons are good depending on which model you buy. Back then when it was mixing straight vinyl, any ortofon was good. When it comes to time codes, They all have a Different MV output. This is why the new needles that get introduced have a Higher MV. The old Ortofon will work but, you will have some timecode signal problems. Needles with higher MV give getter timecode readings with less adjustments. The needles with a lower MV will give trouble with some wear and thats why you have to make adjustmenst in the time code settings. MV is the Output volume that the needle produces

m447's all the way, the carts will usually last 6 - 9 months with moderate scratch practice (about 4 hours a week) probably 12 - 18 months if you just mix.. there bulletproof and never skip if you set them up properly
