Did you put skinDisableHWAccel to yes perhaps?

How about Gfx card acceleration? (o/s based)
Or perhaps DirectX settings?
I too have grey song pos waves with V8 with 2 (old) machines (they just can't manage it no matter what) (strangely both machines show coloured waves with 7.4.1)
