my waveforms are too tight in the automix editor (like zooming out on a map). how do I make the waveform broader/wider/with more detail (zoom in) so that i can align perfectly?

There should be a blue bar underneath the title and BPM in the POI editor Windows.
Hover over either the left end or right end of that bar. Click, grab, and drag the blue bar. It should change the size and zoom the window.
Your target area is the yellow line in the blue bar.
EDIT: You can also use your mouse wheel to zoom. This is in the manual. The click and drag is not.

I don't have a mouse attached to this laptop. Sometimes, when i do a 3 finger pinch, it zooms in a out, but I haven't been able to figure out what action causes the zoom. I will try to use your trick to see how it works.

On most laptops you can use two-finger up and down movement to scroll and thus zoom in/out.
