open settings.xml with notepad, found
C:\Users\user\Documents\VirtualDJ\settings.xml
search for the text
<shopDemoMode>
change Yes to no, save the file, reopen vdj

That seems like the much more difficult way to change a VDJ setting.
Or does checking the "No" box in Options, not work?

It doesn't, because it is meant to be used in public places where users passing by can't just turn off the option.
