Sujet Apologies - Microphone Levels again
Hi everyone

A new one from me, but I'm sure most of you have heard this query a thousand times.

Ok, I have been broadcasting through a Rodecaster, Monday to Friday since February 1st.
Everything perfect, couldn't ask for more through Rodecaster/Virtual DJ.

On Friday, my Mic levels dropped dramatically.
First half of my broadcast was a disaster.

I brought the music levels down and basically had to 'raise' my voice a little to even things up.

Just tried it this morning, levels still seem to be very low, even though the mic master is max.

I was involved on a zoom call on Thursday - that can't have re-set anything or had any effect, surely.
Virtual DJ was not even open.

As I say, perfect from Feb 1st till yesterday.

Thank you for reading, hope you can help.

Regards

If you using your internal mic or mic in on your pc, it could be that the audio driver! / Windows mixer is affecting your levels, go to your audio mixer app and check

Thanks very much for your reply.

I have my ext mic running from my Rodecaster.

The levels on Rodecaster look good - as it has been.

If you have would be as kind (and given time) could you please listen to a little of my show on Thursday

I was on a Zoom call on Thursday afternoon, two hours on Talksport2

I never changed anything - didn't touch a thing (I know not to)

Then opened up everything on Friday morning and this happened

I had to bring the master music levels down to compensate what I was losing from the mic volume.

Thanks for your reply again, appreciate it.

Since you mention Zoom, some voice calling apps can be set to change sound levels on PC sound card (computer mic etc) Although that would be the opposite, mute other sounds. But you might as well turn that off if you have it on. https://www.trishtech.com/2016/01/mute-other-sounds-in-windows-when-making-phone-calls/

Rune, thanks for your reply.

But it sounds terrible and it's very frustrating

Thanks for your reply again, Rune, thank you

Sureview: Checked everything over in Windows - Rodecaster takes over soon as Windows spots it - volumes ok.

Rune: Checking the communications tab. Reduce Volume of others sounds by 80% was 'ticked'
Do nothing now engaged. Upon returning to Rodecaster/VDJ the mic volume has certainly increased now going to three/four on the levels, where there were struggling to make one/two since Thursday. Looks good, Rune.

Don't know how it will sound in morning, but there certainly appears to be an improvement and the levels do not appear to be struggling

Thank you

Ah good good ;-)

There is also a mic boost (gain) setting in windows (but with such a high end sound card, maybe better done in hardware if needed). And setting it to 100% in Windows is probably fine as well (controlling level externally instead)

maybe phantom power got switched off if the mic requires that

Thank you Wickedmix

Checked 'PP' it was on.

Any other suggestions greatly recieved, as I am useless at this kind of thing.

Thanks again.

Hi Rune

It was a little better this morning, but only a little.

Thanks for your help though, it is appreciated.

Tony
