Sujet What version of VDJ on P3-600 laptop

I've stupidly offered to do a bit of djing for a friends party, but don't want to lug my desktop down and set it up in a garden.

I do have an old Dell P3-600, 256MB RAM laptop doing nothing, so would like to use that. However I guess the latest version of VDJ will struggle to run on it.

Can I run an older version of VDJ - if so, which one do people recomend???.

The laptop will be formatted clean, and just have VDJ on it. It will run with my V1 DJ Console for sound output and control.

Also, can I copy the VDJ database xml file accross to older versions of vdj, or do I need to convert it somehow?

Thanks all!

The minimum requirement to run Virtual DJ is:

* PIII 850 MhZ computer
* 1024x768 SVGA video
* DirectX compatible soundcard
* 512 MB RAM
* 20 MB free on the hard-drive

The recommended configuration is:

* PIV 3 GhZ computer
* 1024x768 SVGA video
* 4.1 DirectX compatible soundcard (with front and rear separate outputs)
* 1024 MB RAM
* 200 MB free on the hard-drive

Odds are against you, but you could try an earlier version, and do some tweaking of the system, removing and disabling stuff that isn't required to run alongside with VDJ. Good luck (contact support for obtaining earlier versions, if you haven't done backups..)

Your machine is too weak, 256Mb is even ok but CPU is slow.

Well what can I say, with latest VDJ and DJ Console drivers, it works resonably well.

It takes a second or so to pre-queue the audio, but other than that everything works.

I did notice that it was rubbish with the standard skin, I swapped to an older DJ Console skin and it worked much better..

However, there's still a few audio glitches - hopefully I can squeeze a bit more out of it. If not I'll ask support to send me an older version.

Audio problems were caused by having safe mode on in the options - djconsole v1 doesn't like that for some reason - found the same on other PCs.

Sounds great now - can even do real time scratch with TK filter and key change active

for best results on weaker machines go to performances

"fastest"

autolatency

and untick safe and overclock

Wish I'd seen this message before, I would have said "Give it a try" at home, as I think it would be fine for MP3s. After what do you have to lose?
However you did anyway, and I'm pleased it all seemed to prove me right, even if i'm typing this "After" you came back with your results! =)
