It stands for time coded vinyl.

Timecoded Vinyl (TCV) allow you to use special vinyl with your turntables to control VirtualDJ with your external equipment, i.e. turntables, mixer, effects pad and whatever else you may have as part of your system. It allows DJing with real vinyl so you have an authentic vinyl feel. Any song or video which you can load into VirtualDJ can be played on these vinyl. The Timecoded Vinyl work just as real vinyl does. If you adjust the pitch, the song will increase in tempo, if you nudge the platter, the tempo of the song will be affected appropriately, if you drop a needle half way into a song, it will play from there etc. You also have the added benefit of being able to use VirtualDJ's features such as effects, looping and keylock.

The system works by feeding the Timecoded signal into a soundcard, VirtualDJ will then decode the signal and work out exactly where on the vinyl the needles position is. It can then calculate how fast the signal is being played (i.e. the pitch of the deck, e.g. +7% 33rpm) and send the song back into the soundcard which will be connected to an external mixer.

In short, it allows you to use the software with real turntables (or cd turntables) instead of buying a seperate hardware controller.
