I prefer the old system as well. It was rock solid for me and made it very simple and easy to go from automix to DJing live and back with no confusion. I have enough stress DJing a wedding for 300 on my own...Maybe I am a simple boy but the 2 deck system works for me.
I repsectfully request that we have the option for 1 deck or 2 deck automix in future releases. Option 1 would be the new setup. Option 2 would mimic the old setup exactly the same.
I believe this would just make Virtual DJ even more versatile and accomodating to DJ's than ever and make all happy.
Thank you,
Vin.

They should have left the 2 deck system alone and had a spare deck on the fly, for this reason I will not be using ver5. The added functions are good in ver5 but they should have been included as extras on to previous version, if I was buying DJ Software at this time I would not purchase ver5. Not being able to mix 1 track to the next at any time by hitting my space bar, means the software is no good to me.

That feature is still there...
Just map the function mix_now to your spacebar

Have you ever heard that 1 written letter to a company represents thousands?? In this case we have more than one written letter.... We don't want Marcros...we don't want a 1 deck mixer...we want an option to use it exactly the way we used to..We love it the old way...just like some people like the old skin...the option was left to use it.....same request here.... how many people have to speak up for it to be enough?
This is not an unreasonable request.... Again, I think Virtual DJ becomes an even more versatile program if the user has both options...the new way or the old way...just another selling point once completed.

Something might be added to give a bit of the old ways back for those who miss.

I can live with the one deck mix. What I dislike is:
1) I have noticed each song starts at a lower volume. It should start at full volume (full and smooth do not alter the result)
2) VDJ not selecting an appropriate point to start the new song. When the song is analysed VDJ should select a point when a fade is at.. say 3/4 volume... or... while the last beat of a cold finish is playing. This is when a full volume song should commence. The existing fade point and fade duration is too simple and does not cater for the different types of endings.

Vinny - got the point and understand. So learn to use the new way before you jump to conclusions on which was better. And for those that have said change it back, most have played with it and learned that it has it's advantages and now are asking for improvements to the new way. So, it's all not lost, it's NEW and people are afraid of and dislike change. But, change is good - liked or disliked - it's good.

As I've posted before, BOTH methods have their pros and cons, certainly it would be a benefit to be able to have a switch to go from one to the other, preferably a hot switch so that you can perform the change mid set without interruption.

Without me needing to read this whole thread, could someone please explain to me in a nutshell, what the two deck Automix has that the one deck doesn't?
From what I understand you want to manually edit the Auto cue point of the incomming song? and want to see how much the 'next' song has loaded into memory?
what else is missing?

Well I believe the automix works the same way as before except on one deck. The thing that maybe most people are talking about is when you
have a song on deck A and one on B. Prior versions you could hit the atl+space and it would crossfade from one deck to the other. Another way was to click on the auto mix at the top of the skin. This is the part I believe is what may be confusing. Maybe I am wrong.
But CSTOLL has provided a way around this. It does work, maybe not as well as prior versons; but it does work.
It is something to get used to. For me the auto mix (meaning taking songs from playlist & playing) is fine. Whether it is on one deck or 2 doesn't make a difference to me. I use auto mix for dinner music only.

You have made my day. That was funny. I often read through gaming forums and this video mimics it almost perfectly! Sad, but true. The reason is that people turn into Internet Tough People because the Internet feels anonymous and they are more afraid of showing the same attitude in person.
Interesting note is that a little bug I found in version 4.0 and reported is still not fixed in version 5.0. The graphic deck number 1 on the basic and full skin is shifted over a little on the FullVideo and InternalMixer skin. Very small bug and not important, but still a little bug for making Virtual DJ look professional.

You need to look at the Playlist menu choices -- there is an option on the menu to 'Remove Played'
So instead of wasting time scrolling simply remove the played file manually, how hard is that?
Also, the new playlist functions just like Windows Media Player, WinAmp, and most other media player applications - the files played stay in the list until you remove them. At least VDJ has given that to you in 1 menu choice. Don't see the need for a automatic remove played.

Yes.... and you have to repeatedly hit "remove played" after every song if you like a nice clean playlist.
To use the analogy of "well winamp and windows media player do it that way" is just silly. Neither of those programs are dedicated DJ programs. if I wanted software that acted like Winamp or Media Player... I would use Winamp and Media Player and not use VDJ.
But on the other hand I can tell you one other DJ SOFTWARE that has this feature.... MIXMEISTER. On Mixmeister from what I remember you even have the OPTION to remove automatically or not.
Why cant VDJ do this? Remove the "Remove Played" and just make it a box you can check or not. Either remove automatically or don't. Done deal.

That's the most important thing that's missing! You don't know where the next song is going to start at. If the VDJ automix was a solid product that always picked the start points perfectly all the time it wouldn't be an issue. But VDJ occasionally blows the start point. Its nice to see where the next song is going to start before it actually starts.

@canspoildj: Very good suggestion as I know a friend that DJ's w/Mixmeister and VDJ and tends towards mixmeister for that reason.
Would be a simple and powerful addition for the dev team. Nice thought.

Further to Bugpuss' question...
-When DJ switches from manual mixing to auto, rather than playing the track waiting on the second deck next, new automix plays the next song in the playlist.
-single deck automix leaves the played songs in the playlist... seems most prefer it wouldnt do that.
-and wut someone else said: U cant tweek the entry/exit points on the fly as easily
Think those seem to be the biggest gripes.

I gotta admit... I used Mixmeister for YEARS. At least 3-4 years. The automix on Mixmeister blows VDJ right out of the water. In fact it pretty much blows any other program out there out of the water. Not only can you see where it will fade in/out on Mixmeister... it shows you in the waveforms HOW its going to fade it out by showing the volume level changes it plans to make (either a long fade or quick cut). I don't think I will ever use a program that will automix better than Mixmeister. It picked the fade in/out points as well as the types of fades perfectly EVERY TIME.
But with that said... I stopped using Mixmeister mainly because I switched to video. VDJ is by far the superior product when it comes to video. I tried Mixmeister's fusion product for video and it kinda sucked (which is why I started looking at other programs... re: VDJ). Plus back then I was only using Mixmeister when I needed to automix. When it came time to actually beatmix the music... I switched to CDs on my CDN88.
Now with VDJ I have learned about DJ Midi controllers and being able to mix live using the DJ software. I can always dream that the VDJ automix will eventually be as good as Mixmeister. But the automix is low enough on the totem pole for me that I will not be dumping VDJ anytime soon. VDJ is definitely THE product to use for video.
