When powering using an external power supply, and the device is not connected to the computer via USB, does the red LED come on?
As mine dosent. So how do we know its being powered? Or that light only represents a connection?

No mine does not come on either only when plugged into usb.

only use usb mate and it comes on the min i power up my laptop.

ah ok. ya mine does that too. as when powering via an external AC adapter, the red light dosent come on. it only comes on when connected to the comptuer. So im assuming, that light dosent represent power, but more to confirm a connection has been made. i tought the light represented power

yes i believe it shows connection between the two devices.when using ac adapter the usb then turns to data link i think lol

You only ever require a PSU if your laptop or PC cannot supply power over USB.
Most laptops and computers of the last 3-4 years can do this.
