Question?
I am looking into the program Virtual Dj, and some other things. However, I have a question in regards to my music library.
I was curious what people use to allow thier clients to look at thier music library? I have all my music on my harddrive, however havent been able to figure out exactly how to send them a database, or a catalog of my music, besides use my harddrive and searching for the music.
Does anyone know of a program that will do this for me? I hope not to have to insert all the music into a excel doc/access doc to be able to do this, since Im adding music all the time...
Any help, suggestions, questions would be much appreciated in helping me conquer this task?
Thanks all for everyones help! :)

I don't let my clients look at my hard drive. I provide them with a "music information sheet". There are places for them to make requests. If I don't have a song or two I get them. But why waste time, and paper, printing out a list of 29K songs. They are not going to read it, and you already know what you have.

I do the same thing as Terry. I have a packet that I give my clients. In the packet I have the contract, list of activities that they can request, add names of people in the wedding, etc party, other stuff along with a song request form. On this form they can list all of the songs they want and don't want played, as well as an itinerary of when certain songs should be played during particular parts of the event, etc.
If I don't have something (and this is rare) I will get it. I have well over 100,000 songs in my terabyte hard drives. This includes multiple genres and cultures. Music video and karaoke are on two other drives.

BTW: If your client really wants a list for reference purposes tell them to go to hell... I mean...
http://www.mobilebeat.com/top-200/
or
http://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200#/charts/billboard-200
There are also places on the net to look at old charts and song lists.
The Mobile Beat Top 200 is probably the best place to start for your clients because they list the top favorites of all time in multiple genres. This is a list most guests at an event can agree on.
Then have them put together a list for you, go buy what you don't have. You should always make sure to have everything on the Mobile Beat 200, every mobile DJ should, so check it regularly.

Personally, I do not allow people to see my song list. Especially, since some of the song titles could be considered offensive to some people. Just because I have it, does not mean I will play it. Secondly, they are paying me to program the event. If they choose all of the songs to play, then they should just rent a jukebox. I use their requests as a guide as to what I will play that evening. Even some of their mandatory song requests will just not work.

You can use a third party vendors such a DJ Intelligence which has a music database and many others tools that you can use. However, there is a yearly fee for using this tools.
You can also try using another software called Musicmagic4u.com

I do take requests and have a top 200 list. The list is just for me to get and idea what the client is leaning toward.
My standard line is "you don't ask your car mechanic what specific tools he uses to fix your car so why would you care what songs I use to fill your dance floor?"
If the client is persistent I tell them they can rent a JukeBox for $200 loaded with every song you want. Now if you want an emtertainer to fill your dance floor book me.

I understand what you are saying but I have to dis-agree with you. Your clients are hiring you to play the songs they want to here, not what you want to hear. Telling them to rent a jukebox is not professional. There is nothing wrong with having them involve by submitting a playlist which can be mix in with speacial request and songs that you know will work witht that spefic event. Having a playlist is only a suggestion because the event might dictate for your to complete change things up on the fly. Bottom line is they are hiring you because you are a professional and will follow your lead if you handle yourself in this manner.

Elementary Suggestions
A. Find out what type of music they like or artists, genre..ect.
B. What age group are they expecting to attend.
C. What type venue
D. Then Make a playlist in your iTunes library and print that list.
E. You don't need to buy any other program.
F. No more then 200 songs is a good number to avoid confusing them and yourself.
G. Once you have there info you'll have a good basis to drew from.

If a simple textfile is good enough and you are using Win XP, it is possible to use a console command to list ALL the files in a directory tree.
F:\tmp>tree /f > tree.txt
