Sujet USB Hubs..

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hey!

I was wondering if you can use USB Hubs to plug in interfaces, rather than storage devices.

For example, I want my usb hub to connect:

MIDI Interface (M-Audio UNO)
Soundcard (M-Audio Conectiv)
External Hard Drive
External Keypad (Midi Controller LOL)

Is this possible?

Thanks!

Hey Makashino,

out there is a lot possible ;-) also your thought.

But i would not do this.
A USB Hub is a bottleneck and i'm sure you fall in some trouble.
Too much traffic, can slow down or crash components and so they can't work as they should.

But i'm not a friend of USB-Hubs.
Other DJ's here loves them and have no problems.
Maybe they can give you an adive for some good hubs;-)
So ........

I don't know how many USB Ports your PC/Notebook has onboard, but i hope more then two.
Also i hope you have pcmcia or a expresscard slot.

So my advise is:

Use for every USB-Equipment a own port on your PC/Notebook.
Buy a pcmcia/expresscard and (USB/esata or Firewire) connect over that your high performance needed equipment. (Harddisk and/or soundcard)

Not to disagree with you Haui but... I use a seven port powered USB hub made by Belkin that I bought at the Guitar Center. I have two 2 CDJ-400s, two hard drives, an M-Audio MidiSport Uno for my Pioneer DJM-800 MIDI mixer, USB cordless laser Mouse and a keyboard on the hub. On the computer itself I have an eSata hard drive, the USB hub, Akai APC40 Abelton controller and an extra port I leave open for whatever or my Serato SL3 when using it.

I have never experienced any bottle-neck issues. I have had my set up like this for 7 months continuously without an issue.

DJ Pulse from the Pioneer forums who is also our Pioneer rep for VDJ and a computer genius is an advocate for the "reduction of USB hub ignorance" and I'm also a supporting member! lol

lol DJ RuDe,

no problem ;-)

Thats why i wrote, I don't like it but i know, out there are some crazy guys like you ;-) Hehe!

Damned, that much stuff on a singel port? Nice ;-)
But i think it will not work on every notebook or in every combination.

Puh, how long does it need to build up your stuff on a gig?
1h?

Just a joke!

Nice one mate ;-)

So we see, nothing is impossible!

Hi everyone.
I agree with goodness of USB Hubs. But ONLY if they are externally powered. Don't use USB Hubs if they have not external power suplies, or your stuff will need to much energy that the USB port won't give, and your USB stuff will randomly fail.
Hope it helps....

Yes, powered, I did mention that.

Haui, I don't bring everything to every gig. I only bring what the customer is paying for. My set up when it's in my home studio is fully connected but not necessarily on a gig, lol

Its best to use a powered USB hub, and make sure it is USB 2.0, no bottlenecks!

I use a 7 port powered hub and have my cooling plate, 500gb hd, infrared mouse, 'live' video camera and PC to TV convertor all connected.

Less than 10 minutes to setup :-)

Sound does hardly use bandwidth, it uses stability & consistent feed of data. :) A HUB will be fine, but best is to make it powered yes :)

One usb port can support 127 (or 128) devices according to industry standards information.
