Setup: Audio 8 going to an external mixer
After playing with the settings for a long time, I finally got my comp to stop crashing with the a8. Now it works almost perfectly, except for 1 final problem. Any movement of the v7 platter causes a slight but very noticeable cracking sound (including the platter just being on and spinning without me scratching or nudging at all). If I turn the motor off and do not touch the platter at all, everything is completely fine. As soon as I move it, the cpu spikes and the sound crack occurs. I tried turning safe mode on, using the highest latency settings with the least cpu-intensive sound algorithms, but nothing seems to be working.
I am using win7 64 bit. Ive been told that the a8 doesnt work well with 64 bit, but the sound is fine if I use my rmx or use the v7's with the platter off, so I don't think it is just the sound card. I also don't think it has to do with my comp's cpu usage. If I use vdj with the v7 soundcard, I never experience cracks. When I use the a8 on the same settings (even with only 2 decks instead of 4), the sound does crack.
Ideas?
Thanks (:

I believe you've told it by yourself.
The ASIO drivers of A8 do not behave well. There's a lot more than CPU usage that matters when it comes to sound.
Have you run a DPC Latency check on your system?
Try to run it with different devices (and drivers) active to see how it behaves. If with V7 soundcard (or even RMX soundcard) you don't experience DPC spikes, but you DO experience spikes once you connect/enable your A8, then that's your problem!
You can search on the forums or Google "Thesycon.de DPC Latency Checker" but anyway, here' the links for you:

I already know that the problem is the a8, since I have no problems with the v7/rmx soundcards. I'm asking what I can do to fix the problem, since I want to be able to ouput 4 decks to my external mixer for smoother edm mixes.
I've heard that the drivers don't work well with win7 64 bit. Would running vdj in 32 bit compatibility mode help?

No. Actually VDJ runs in 32 bits mode all the time (That's the reason it installs itself on Program Files (x86) folder)
Perhaps running the ASIO drivers in 32 bit mode would help, but YOU CAN'T RUN DRIVERS in compatibility mode.
It seems that you are stuck until NI releases better drivers. :(
I would suggest a dual boot with Windows 7 x64 and Windows 7 x86 for the moment.

Ah. That makes sense. I'll contact NI and see if they have a driver for 64 bit. If not, I was thinking of getting a new comp anyways, mine's getting kind of old, so i might go with one with 32 bit.
Thanks for your help (:

It's somehow hard to find a new laptop with 32 bit OS nowdays.
NI should get their drivers fixed ASAP. Other than that, dualboot seems to be your only "solution" for the moment... :(

Yeah... NI should get better drivers, the a8 is an amazing sound card but I've heard so many bad things about the drivers.
I still think getting a new comp would help though. Although a lot more than just cpu usage goes into latency, the sound only cracks when the cpu spikes. My laptop is fairly old, still running a core 2 @ 2.66 ghz. Since the v7's and a8 both have higher en system requirements, I think this might be too much. This would also explain why the sound card works perfectly except for when the v7 platter is on. If I got something new, with an i7, I'm betting it would run without any issues.
