Hi, my computer does not have the necessary sound card to allow me to have separate audio channels for headphones and speakers. Basically i can't have two separate audio outs. I would like to know if an external (USB) sound card is a viable option and if so which type would be best. thanks everyone

Home FREE is limited software and only supports the following sound configurations:
* Single output using the built-in sound card in your computer (No headphone pre-listening.)
* Master + headphones using a built-in 5.1 surround sound card (Front speaker output for master, rear speaker output for headphones.)
* Master + headphones using the built-in sound card in the computer for master and a basic stereo USB sound card for headphones.
* Master + headphones through the built-in sound card in your computer using the mono split option (NOTE: This will only give you MONO sound.)

....An economical option with some really good quality as well, is the Numark DJ/Io......It will allow u to go USB from the PC (bypassing your PC;s soundcard)....and out put sound into 4 (2 sets) of RCA outputs....One could go to powered speakers....Or down the line run each pair to separate mixers....On the frnt is a headphone jack for monitoring the "Cue" of the nct trach and a Microphone jack to talk over the music along with the mic volume knob.......Around $90 US....Worth it....These Digital to analog converters or External sound cards sell for 50 cents for a el cheepo on ebay to 900$ for a RANE brand....Major difference...the amount of stuff you can plug into them...thats it....the numark is a good quality card and any external sound card is usually of far superior quality to ones that come built in the controllers......hope that helps....happy mixin!...........

....if ur not going to do the Pro License and get a Midi controller...U just want to mix via mouse and the free VDJ version...Get one of the 2$ usb cards off ebay...they plug right into the headphone jack on the PC and the new card (size of a thumbdrive really)....has 2 additional 1/8 inch headphone style jacks....one for phones and the other to your speakers....think 1/8 inch jack with stereo RCAs on the other end for the speakers......Will work great and cheap....If u like it tho..get a MIDI controller and the Pro License...u wont be disappointed!!......good for life!

To use the DJIO, either VirtualDJ Basic http://www.virtualdj.com/products/basic.html or the full Professional http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html is required.
