Sujet MBP...thought this was suppose to be a DJ laptop?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

So I "upgraded" from a Compaq Dual Core 2.1 Ghz processor, 2 gigs of RAM, Windows 7 Upgraded from Vista to a MacBook Pro Quad Core 2.0 Ghz i7 with 4 GBs of RAM, Lion OSX...and I am not happy.

Here is my issue, and I've read many forums, not getting much help...

The waveforms are choppy. I bring that up not to say I use the waveforms to mix or beatmatch, but to somehow describe what I am experiencing. I see choppy waveforms, the sound is affected...until...when I click on the Search bar, as I start to type, two things happen...the first is you hear a crackle/pop and the second is, the waveforms are spliced(?). Now, the reason I bring up the waveforms is because of the beatgrid. I will play a song and beatmatch the beatgrid accordingly. If I don't do anything, it stays synced, both in sound and sight. However, if I scratch, the beat markers are choppy/spliced and are off, you can hear it and see it. Same with the Search bar, as soon as I start typing, the songs are now out of sync.

No, I am not running other programs in the background. I've shut off the internet, there are no programs running but Virtual DJ
Yes, even without the external soundcard (Native Instruments Audio 6) this happens, even when I am using the internal soundcard.
Yes, it is a video skin but the video portion has been turned off.
Yes, I have changed the codecs to Quicktime for the mp3 AND wmv files in the settings.
Yes, I have gone through the permissions update in the Disk Utilities menu.

I honestly don't know what else to do. Everything (harddrive {yes, it's been formatted for both Windows and Mac}, soundcard, etc) is the same as it was on the PC, however, this MAC is not performing! Did I really spend all that money on it for this to happen? Is this a known limitation in the MAC version? What else can I do? I've submitted a ticket and no response so far...

Any help is greatly appreciated...

Latency comes to mind.... Try increasing the latency on your external sound card Also are you sing the default VDJ Skin? I have had issues with some other skin that have been resized that cause the waveforms to look odd

I've tried all these things, getting into the "disabling Mission Control" and other things. Another issue, when I start to type in the search bar, it throws the songs off sync, I literally start the same song on two different decks at the same time, and hit Sync, then start to type and the songs become unsynced!

Also, just ran Serato Intro...not a single skip, hiccup, etc...I do not want to go to Serato...I love VDJ way too much...

If you're running bootcamp, try installing on the windows side and see if you have any issues. I run a 13" mbp 2.4 core 2 duo & I do music video all night and never have a glitch in either the mac os or in windows....

Nah, not running boot camp, but again, my PC was waaaaaay weaker. I tried it with a different skin, one with 1440X900 resolution, so far so good, appears to be the skin, but that's a weak excuse...

This is probably because you were using a skin that didn't match your screen's native resolution and had either resized it or maxmised it as described on the above page.

This can cause performance issues due to VirtualDJ having to resize it on the fly, particularly if you have chosen the quality resizing option in CONFIG -> Performances.

Ideally you should use a skin that matches your screen resolution or use the skin at its native size (This may mean that it doesn't fill the screen.)

I was using it as the native size...I just don't get it..and I submitted a ticket but nothing...

I have a MacBookPro 13 and use the skin with 4 platters. Everything works great. I also use Hercules Rmx.

I don't have Lion though, I have Tiger.

Sorry about your troubles, I know how frustrating it is. I hope you get it worked out. Either way, you'll really love your Mac, this is my first Mac and I am sorry I didn't go Mac years b4.

I now have Logic Pro 9 and absolutely am having a great time producing beats and making mixes and drops.

So far, Catap, you're right, the default skin has font so tiny I have a hard time reading things sometimes. I'm hoping it gets better with the 8.0 update

What are the advantages of using a MBP bootcamped with W7 as apposed to using a windows machine with W7?

In my thoughts there's no difference at today's PC's to today's MAC as there are a lots of high end PC's who performs better than MAC. I believe maybe 15-Years ago MAC is far more better than in any aspects of it wether hardware of softwares at this time MAC and PC are using almost exactly the same brands and same supplier of china's components so what makes of the difference is the OS only. Either you used bootcamped or what so ever it does not make any huge difference.

While 15years ago most of the MAC components are exclusively manufacture for apple and you can rarely find it in the market like the memory and CPU was exclusively made by motorola for apple and mostly apple components at that time can not be use in PC. The worst thing happen on MAC machine when they move to INTEL's components because motorola have move their business in manufacturing mobile phones CPU and Memory business they left apple behind as mobile phones business is as huge compare to apple cpu & memory business.

what's your cpu utilization? my brand new 17" macbook with 16gigs RAM is killing VDJ; knocking it outta the park. CPU meter never gets above 12%.

now my 2009 macbook pro with 4 gigs of RAM couldn't do video mixing in VDJ; CPU meter was way up in the 80% constantly and it lags and looked/sounded like sh*t.

the major thing that VDJ doesn't do well compared to mix emergency for mixing videos is it doesn't scale back the video quality to match the hardware of the laptop. mix emergency has a ton of settings that can be adjusted to make it mix videos on just about any laptop.

In my opinion Virtualdj is not ready for MAC, not yet. I have tried a lot of skin, the majority looks blurred in one part or another. The only skin that looks perfect for me is Mix Lab V3.1

The letters in the browser section looks tiny, I had to modify the size in every single skin.
We can´t record video.
Less video effects.
In my case ramdom crashes a lot of times.
Poor support.

I´ve 2 Macs, MacBook Pro 13", 4 gigas, Snow Leopard (many problems with Virtualdj) With Traktor, zero problems, why ???

MacBook Pro 15" 8 gigas, Lion, there is no crashes yet in this machine but last weekend, Virtualdj spent 6 minutes to open. Same history with the skins...blurred.

MAC + Virtualdj = Bad combination.

I´m sorry but that´s my experience.

Agreed. Vdj does not run properly on a Mac.....and because of this I wandered off to other software. There was no way I was giving up my os x for windoze. Thanks vdj for helping me discover traktor .
