Hi,
Does anybody have any recommendations for a hardware controller with balanced XLR outputs?
I had a Gemini Ctrl Six but it has just given up the ghost - awful piece of kit. I'm gonna send that back.
I'm looking for something under £300ish new or used. I don't need any fancy features, I just want something that will be reliable.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Look at the Denon DN 6000
The Numark mixdeck also has xlr outputs I believe.

Yup the Numark Mixdeck does have them, but the soundcard is a little quit but it still does sound good.

Thanks for all the quick responses.
I don't really need CDJ support. I will only be using it for laptop DJ stuff.
djrasja, have you heard / seen the American Audio controllers? Are they any good? What's the build quality like?
Cheers.

Just think of it like this, If your laptop dies you can switch to CD's or unplug your harddrive from your laptop and plug it into the Mixdeck and just keep on rolling.

Beatbreaker1, that's a fair point. I'll keep the option open - maybe E-bay.
The only thing at the moment is that the purse string are a bit tight ha ha.
Would like to hear if anybody has had experience with some of the cheaper VDJ controllers? I've come across American Audio and Hercules with XLR out in this price bracket. There is also soon to be a CTRL 7, maybe it's better than the last model? I just wanted to see if anybody can vouch for their reliability before splashing out again.
Thanks a lot.

I have a VMS2, feels like a solid unit. All metal case, the jogs are good size and the buttons and knobs are nicely spaced.
The only issue im having is drifting when scratching, however, ive used another VMS2 and a VMS4 and those units do not have that issue, i believe its my unit that is faulty.
The sound quality is good for the price, and the price is excellent for a unit that has all those features. I use it with timecode CDs and Vinyls and i have no regrets.
I also have a Mixdeck, Numark had a great idea with this unit, but the quality is very poor. Had to send mine in for repair as buttons stopped responding.
The MC6000 is a great unit, perhaps the best in quality, but i find it to be cramped, and for someone with chubby fingers that doesnt help.
Personally i dont mind the size of the unit as long as its functional. Over the years ive grown to prefer silicone buttons as i find they prolong the life of the unit, hard plastic, after a while, give the circuit board a beating. My two cents :)

Does anybody have any recommendations for a hardware controller with balanced XLR Subbass Out for separate subwoofer?
Posté Sun 01 Dec 13 @ 9:40 am
Most (if not all) controllers only have a full range master output, because the splitting of frequencies to the various speakers is usually done either by an active crossover (when using separate amps and passive speakers) or by the circuitry inside powered subs.
I'm not aware of any controllers that have a dedicated sub output but, if any do exist, you would have a severely limited selection from which to choose.

The 6000 had this but its kinda hidden :) use your booth out and the eq instant subwoofer control :)
Posté Sun 01 Dec 13 @ 11:01 am
yep, any mixer/controller with a booth out will do this trick, I've done it and it works perfectly...
Posté Sun 01 Dec 13 @ 3:43 pm
How so?
The booth out is usually just a second master out. How do you apply a low pass filter to the booth out without affecting the main out?

Hercules RMX2 has XLR outputs. I use it exclusively and it works great.
