It's possible with a lot of work. Use a high quality rotary encoder, it's much easier.

So does somebody know about HID Trace and how to interpret/use the data it gives to create a definition file for a USB HID Device?

hello, i have the home edition now. i wish to use a usb joystick with virtualdj, if all goes well, i will consider buying it.
i don't understand the wiki pages or what to write in the definition. All i know is basic mapping.

Can someone help?

Echo, Echo, Echo,

Anybody?

Better to seek help in other places, it's as if they protect the secret of life or something.

how would the answer be any different to the above, you are asking the same question... before you can think of mapping a HID device you need VDJ Pro full. once you have that the information to define it is in the wiki. unfortunately like many other users on here I don't have a HID device to offer any assistance, the only user I know of that has defined HID is techie...

as above no one is helping because no one knows... this is a very helpful forum when we know the answer even towards nlu's. If you wan't to do it you need to study up, or get a hid - midi translator like Ian Golden used with the guitar hero controller.

i am a home edition user and even so, i can view the hid wiki page, no help there.

did you do a google search? if not why not...

search this
site:virtualdj.com HID definition

first result page had this thread "Help needed with HID coding on a bluetooth PS3 remote" find it and read it as it's fairly comprehensive and I'm sure there are many like it in the archives that can be accessed the same way.

i've read that page and did not help me understand what to do with the data in hidtrace, if only there was someone who can explain.

Any solution for converting HID to MIDI in windows?

Please understand that due to the nature of HID devices it's not easy to define one if you are not a tech savvy guy.
While HID devices are very simple to use (for the simple user) they are a pain in the @$$ for a programmer.
All the info you need is there on the Wiki. If you can't understand it or if you find it insufficient then it means that you don't have the background knowledge to define/program a HID device and that you need to make some study first.

PS: Defining a device (even in MIDI which is a much more easier/simpler protocol) very often becomes a try and miss procedure even for tech savvy users. Defining a device (HID or MIDI) is NOT a simple procedure, and it requires a lot of effort and patience.
Finally no-one can give you a ready "example-code" since without the background knowledge you need it would all seem like Greek to you... Especially for a HID device!

Hey guys, I've done it. I got my USB Joystick working with VirtualDJ.

The way to do it is to use MIDI Yoke and Rejoice.
After adding buttons in Rejoice and setting the MIDI Out to MIDI Yoke 1, I can map buttons in VirtualDJ, Simple MIDI wrapper.

I do however like the ideea of just a definition and mapper file for it. If anyone knows how to do it, please speek up.
If there is any software solution to simplify this, please let me know.

Now it's time for some soldering and case design, electronic parts. Here comes somethig from nothing.

Anybody got an Ideea on how to build a jogwheel? Some DIY, materials we can find with ease, method of construction.

Now, how do I make it vibrate when a deck is playing?

Anybody knows how to make the joystick vibrate when a certain event is on? I'm interested to replace the motors with LED's.
